Jonesing for a Mamiya C33

Now I have a pair of C33 Mamiyas. The idea here is to preload the cameras so they are easy and quick to interchange. Both of these are fully tested to the point of shooting some Ilford Pan F through each. Before I changed to Hasselblad the idea was multiple bodies, not multiple backs.

OR mount them on a bar and take stereo photographs.

What a lovely portrait. Real beauties! These big old Mamiyas are great shooters. Nowadays, they must be the most inexpensive way to get into quality 6x6. Even the different lenses are reasonable priced.

My Hasselblad system is fully stocked, but I heard the siren call of these beautiful behemoths. It is a different experience than shooting with Blads and I can now alternate as I please. The Mamiyaflex C2 and the C33 were always standouts after owning multiples of the entire line to the C3330S.
I think the materials are sturdier and more reliable, more plastics used in the modern bodies. Pretty hard to break or bend.

With the Hartblei Magnifier and the new Hugo black skin I think my C2 seems kind of steampunk almost

Here is the new to me Black Mamiyaflex C2 Skin from Hugo Studios. Really freshens up the camera. This will be enjoyable to take outside.

Bought a 105mm "D" lens which wouldn't mount on the C2 or the C33's. So back it went. Just ordered a Super 180mm so keeping with the best modern lenses on the older bodies. This camera was introduced in 1958 I think, so we are the same age. It's holding up well for 63.

My Mamiya C22 Body is back from Camtronics got a full CLA. Now loaded with EFKE PL100 120. Everything works great including the 220 back and 220 counter. This will be a backup body for me. A bit more modern than my Mamiyaflex C2.

My Mamiya C22 Body is back from Camtronics got a full CLA. Now loaded with EFKE PL100 120. Everything works great including the 220 back and 220 counter. This will be a backup body for me. A bit more modern than my Mamiyaflex C2.

I hope that you enjoy that camera as much as I enjoy my camera. Yours is one of the few that can be focused and fired with either hand.

Mac at Camtronics is working on a couple of my Minolta SRT's right now. When I pick those two up, I will drop off two Mamiya C33 bodies for the same CLA he just gave my C22.

Mac at Camtronics is working on a couple of my Minolta SRT's right now. When I pick those two up, I will drop off two Mamiya C33 bodies for the same CLA he just gave my C22.

I had had the C330f with the 65mm, 80mm and 250mm lenses. I found the 65mm lens really too close to the 80mm lens and would recommend the 55mm lens over the 65mm by far.

Been running this stuff through Camtronics and at this point all of these are good shooters. The idea here, is to have a bank of cameras at the ready, loaded with different speeds and types of B&W film. I like K2 yellow filters as you can see, I need a pair of slimline (preferably Mamiya C) yellow filters for the super 180.

The C22 is cranking through my first roll of 220 Shanghai 100 new fresh emulsion so the jury is still out on this stuff. I bought another ten rolls to REALLY give it a good go.

Lenses are: 80mm, 105DS, 135mm Blue Dot and Super 180.

Yes they do. The Mamy ones have the 3X/6X Magnifiers and I do do like it as my eyes get older. All of these shoot interchangeably Some are primitive and some are not. I like that

My problem is that the left-right reversal drives me crazy for tracking subjects.

I'm totally used to mine, so it's not an issue for me. I do have a Porrofinder with the little "M's" on it, which I think is so kewl. It came with my first C33. Oh, and I have one of those Nippon Black Porrofinders that came with my Mamyflex C2. Probably should sell them.....

The Porrofinders give you a rightside-up, laterally reversed image.
The Prism finders give you an image that is both rightside-up and un-reversed.
The prism finders are heavy, but relatively small and bright.
The Porro-finders are relatively light, bulky, and provide a relatively dim image.
I'd love to have one of the magnifying chimney finders, but then my two lens C330 kit wouldn't all fit in one moderately sized bag.

I also have chimney finders on my Hasselblads, and I have hacked a trashed Mamiya RB67 Metered Stovepipe to fit my Plaubel Makiflexes (I removed the meter and reclad the finder with black leather). So stovepipes are really my preferred way of working.

Camtronics in Columbus?

I've used them before and been very happy with them. Every time I am there I get sucked into World of Photography next store, and end up further stimulating the Columbus economy.

Yep right next to "World of Used Photography". Mac says they are the last brick and mortar repair shop in Ohio. They do excellent work! Mac is qualified to work on my SRT's and Mamys. He was factory trained to work on Minolta. I just picked up my 100mm F2.0 Rokkor (from the early sixties) which worked only wide open. Mac says it was "absolutely trashed" inside but he was able to fix it best possible only. He told me "Please don't drop it, it's a delicate gem". He said it took him three days to repair it! Took that long to do my C22 too, it was horrible inside. People try to repair this equipment and nearly ruin it
