Last week, my photography professor in undergrad and graduate school, John Scarlata, passed away after a long battle with cancer. He worked with alternative processes and large format up to 7x17". Here is a link to the obituary.

He will be missed.

I'm sorry that you had to loose a friend. I lost a photographic mentor from my undergrad recently, too.

All the best.

OMG ! So John Scarlata has passed away !! I am devastated by the news; I just stumbled across this while looking again for his contact info on the internet. He mentored me quite a bit during my teens back in 1977 - 78, and gave me a lot of valuable knowledge I use to this day. Not knowing of his passing, I had tried to contact him since then (a couple of years ago), and had sent him some examples of my work so he could appreciate the results of his mentorship - and had wondered why I never got a reply. He was such a fine gentleman and artist, and I credit him with the inspiration and instruction that helped make me the photographer I am today !
