The British photographer passed away yesterday.

He was at the for-front of the revival of Art photography in the UK in the 1970s and a passionate advocate, and total master, of the Zone System, which his images show. In comparison, St Ansel was a mere beginner.

I had the privilege of knowing John, two workshops, various exhibition openings, a print from him as a Christmas card. A lovely man, modest, frugal, but a superb photographer.

Ian, thanks for the info. Always a shame when such a person dies but at 88 he has a "good innings" as the saying goes He certainly "spread the word" on b&w photography and in very practical ways

I have the book he wrote : " John Blakemore's Workshop on Black and White Photography" and should probably read it again

I agree - even about the book!
For those who don't know, I believe that the "good innings" reference comes from the ame of Cricket.

An hour with John Blakemore talking very eloquently about his wonderful and beautifully crafted landscape and still life photographs.

A very inspired and inspiring photographer. RIP.

I attended a workshop with John in September 2000 at Duckspool and I have one of his demonstration prints.

Sorry to hear that he has died.

RIP John.
