jobo vertical streaks on hp5 plus

I recently developed a bunch of films in Jobo cpe2, tmax, adox were fine, hp5 not. Same temperature, replenished xtol, 2 minute presoak, 71F. Maybe it is the fact that I shot it at 100 ISO?

I see nothing about not presoaking while using rotary tubes in Xtol data sheet

I was not aware of that. I just processed ~50 rolls of 120 Tri-X in Xtol 1:1 with a 5 minute pre-soak and no problems.

If the streaks come from the sprocket holes in the film it could be a case of over-agitiation.

I have been using JOBO for the last two years and almost exclusively use HP5+ and FP4+. Develope in HC-110.
Newer had that problem. I newer pre-soak my film, according to recommendation from Ilford.

Ilford data sheet:
"For use in rotary processors without a pre-rinse, reduce the spiral tank development times by up to 15%. A pre-rinse is
not recommended as it can lead to uneven processing." page 3.

Never presoak film unless it is sheet film that will be hand interleaved. No exceptions.

Film can not be over agitated. No such thing. You can get under developed areas from lack of complete agitation and you can get over developed streaking if the developer dribbles in streaks over the film as the tank is filling..

Make sure the interior funnels are in place and add developer as rapidly as possible and then agitate asap rather strongly if doing hand. If by machine, same advice with the funnel, pour down lift quickly with rotation at TOP speed. After 30 sec, slow to film speed. You MUST use BIDIRECTIONAL rotation with all film.

Follow this and the streaks will go away.

BTW, the large diameter tanks,6", work better than the small 1500 series around 3.5" dia.

Lastly use the proper amount of developer. 8 oz for single 120 reel in 2500 ser tank if I remember correctly.

I have literally done hundreds of rolls with no presoak without a problem.

interesting, I am using presoaking to avoid air bubbles, always worked fine for me, some of the discussions suggest presoaking with Jobo, in order to equalize dev times as compared to manual tanks.
