I am aware that the 2550 has a normal lid + center column, and the 2840 has a cup lid, however I'd like to know if the tank bodies themselves are the same? More specifically, does the 2550 have the vertical ridges for papers on the inside? I'm thinking of picking up a 2550 for film and occasionally papers, so any input is much appreciated.

I do think the lids fit interchangeably on both tanks but the 2800 series has the ridges while the 2500 series does not. I could certainly be wrong though. I often am.

The people at CatLabs will know. A quick phone call or email to them will likely clear up the question.

I just started 4x5 and use the bottom of my 2800 paper tank with the 2509n reel. I put the funnel in from one of my 1500 lids, and the center core from one of the multi reel 1500 tanks I have, all worked fine.
So, if your question is, can you use the 2800 paper tank with a 2500 series a film reel, it worked for me just fine.

+1 All the bits are interchangeable. If you have column pieces and a funnel (removable) from any film tank lid you are set. All my 2500 series tanks have smooth walls. I use whatever is handy . The 2800 stuff tends to be cheaper used.

My 2551 has smooth walls.
I too have a 2551 with smooth inside walls. The OP's question, which I'd also be interested in hearing a definitive answer to, was never directly addressed. Can anyone who possesses a 2550 confirm that its inside walls are smooth like those in the older 2551? Thanks in advance.
