Hi guys I'm new here so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I currently got a Jobo CPE-3 with a 1520+130extension tank which can do 5x 35mm rolls. My question is what's the maximum chemistry capacity of I'm developing 5x rolls of 35mm?

I'm finding the instructions confusing

Welcome to APUG Photrio!!

Have a look at the tank and the extension. You will notice two numbers, one for inversion agitation and one for rotation. Add the numbers for the combined 1520 + 1530 extension. So, if you wanted to use the combined tank with rotation agitation you add 240 + 330 = 570ml of solution.

So this is for any number of film inside the tank whether it's 1 or 5 rolls of 35mm?

Thanks 🙏🏻

If you use the processor, the tank will be placed horizontally and rotated, so regardless of the number of films inside, you need to use this minimum volume of chemicals Niko. If you have up to 2 135 films, then you can use the 1520 tank alone, without the 1530 extension, with 240ml of chemicals.

Thanks I usually do 5 films at a time thanks for your help

That amount is the minimum necessary to completely cover (physically) the film whether one or five when the drum is horizontal. It may not be the minimum necessary to achieve the degree of development you desire -- depending on your film and developer. I don't know the maximum that combination will hold (easy enough to check using plain water); but I seem to recall that Jobo recommends against putting more than one liter into a drum because of strain on the motor (that is for my -2, though, and may not apply to your CPA-3).

Thanks yeh I'm going to be using Belini E6 chemicals

Technically, that isn't the minimum amount to completely cover the film.
It is the minimum amount to reach up to the centre column when the tank is on its side.
Which is the amount that ensures that the film nearest the centre of the reel is rotating through the chemicals.
Less volume will result in that little portion of film nearest the centre not spending enough - or any - time immersed in the chemicals.

most of them have the amount for rotaion shown on the lebel, Just add the amont for the 1520 ro the amount for the 1530. I usually use mine for inversion so Need 1210 to fill the tank completely.

600ML is the perfect amount of liquid for that tank combination.

38 years ago when in Germany and buying some Ilford ID11 developer to develop on the run, I was flabbergasted to find Ilford selling 600ml dry powder ID11 developer. When I queried the camera shop staff, I was gaily informed that this was because Germany had the highest concentration of Jobo processors in the world and the 600ml kits were for that exact tank combination. Germany was the only place I have ever seen 600ml developing kits.

I myself used 600ml many times with that tank combination for B&W and C41.

If your rotary processor tank is completely horizontal, then 570ml will develop your film correctly; but it has to be really level. Using 600ml, which is easier to do in a measuring beaker, instead of 570ml is a doddle.

If you can pick up a Jobo 1510 tank, you can attach the three film extender, which then becomes a 1540 tank. This uses 500ml of developer (actually slightly less) for four rolls of 35mm film. Often one purchases developer in 1 litre pouches, this tank lets you do one shot developing with virtually no developer wastage.
