I just read in another thread (mentioned as an aside) that Jens Jensen of Durst-Pro USA has passed. He was of great assistance to me over the years - he had an encyclopedic knowledge of Durst enlargers.
I wonder if the company will it survive without him. There is nothing on the website.

I think he ran the whole show. I can't imagine who would have the knowledge to take it over.

That's what I'm wondering. I talked to him a few months ago, requesting a mixing box for my 5x7 enlarger and told me that he would not be able to provide one until the new year. I e-amailed him a few weeks ago not knowing that he had passed and no one from the company responded. I will call this week to see if anyone is there.

I called a few times today and got an atomated answer to call “at a later time”: I hope it’s temporary while thigs are sorted out but it is not a good sign.
I someone is able to reach Durst-Pro-USA, I would appreciate a post on this thread.

The website is still in existence but the phone numbers are no longer in service. So it is reasonable to assume that Durst Pro USA like its owner is gone.

Had that business not acquired the major part of Durst's obsolete parts stock?

Durst is pretty much out of the enlarger business; So, I doubt, they care one way or the other; still a great loss;RIP

Completely out of the enlarger business.

The late Jensen once told me that he had the drawings for all of the professional Durst enlargers. I know that he made 12 L200's for a university darkroom, completely accessorized.

What is an L200 ?
Not in my archive, not on the Jensen site, nor on the latest Durst listing.

A 1 is probably missing - most likely it should be "L1200".

Anyways, sad that the man is gone and thar the business itself might be too.

If he had that inventory I hinted at that likely will show up some time and at least that would be to our service one way or another.

By the way, this forum is for the memory of passed Apug members. Was Jens Jensen a member here? Maybe he was before my time here. Having members out of the "industry" is desirable, but the exception.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I had a few conversations with him over the years and always found him very patient and helpful.

Hi!

I tried to contact The Durst Pro USA but it seems that the email isn't in use anymore. I would desperately need a new stalilizer for our darkroom's Durst. It's got the Durst EST 1000N stabilizer and it isn't working properly. On the Durst Pro page it says that they would have a new model to replace that, "THE ALL NEW EST1500-N Power Supply is a replacement for EST1000 and EST1000N". Would anybody know from where I could find that?

With many thanks,
Katri

See posts #6 and 12. Though it is strange that by now nothing has appeared. Maybe stuff was bought up and is just drained piece by piece unnoticed on Ebay or so.

A generic electronics specialist should be able to repair it. Though a circuit diagram sure would be helpful. We got some members here who tinkered with Durst 80's electronics.

We did spend last week with my father rechecking / resoldering / revisioning two of EST1500-N Power Supply units (that is how I came to this post and we got 8 pcs from Jens 10 years ago with enlargers for big school darkroom project).
Only now we took 2 first "mint" units from the packaging for testing with CLS1840/2000.

Unit is not well made. Solder on some joints was already falling off. Soldering and mounting were made so sloppy that resonated with a sign "made in the USA" on the front and price Jens was paid.
100% solder joints were an absolute must for resoldering. With our huge experience with Durst-pro-USA "mint" equipment and service - that power supply was just one more proof-of-principle.

Technically the unit is rather simple and built (I could make images if you need or find some on "Durst CLS 1840, 220 volt equipment problem" thread on another forum) around one PWM regulator 50-75 USD priced, 4 time delay relays, 1 power SSR, 3 relays, 1 diod bridge, 24V tranformer, and regulator PCB knob connected with soldered wires. I think you could build one from scratch from photos. You need a plug for the head but I think you could take one from your previous one.

I'm curious as to what all is in it. It does not look too complicated. I have never seen one, I only have the picture here:

rest in peace Jens.

I (Rüdiger Mehlmann Germany) did some repairs for Jens in the USA. He called me once and wanted to talk to me about something when he returned. But there was no more call. I heard about his death through detours. Was it an accident? On my last visit, he complained a little about a lot of work but not about his health.

Ich mache meine eigenen Reparaturen, bin aber daran interessiert, Reparaturinformationen mit anderen zu teilen, die auch Durst reparieren.
