J&C Pro 100 QC

Has anyone had any problems with this film in the 120 size? I've been testing it lately and I really like the look of it, but I'm finding there's always a lot of scratches, specs, or something odd with the emulsion. I did buy the rolls right when they started selling it, so I'm wondering if maybe things have improved with the film since then.

I picked some up back when it was first available, and haven't had the kind of problems you've described. The only real problem I found was that the glued paper strip at the end of the roll had no glue on it.

I just got a shipment in last week from the latest batch, but I haven't used any of it yet. I hope to this weekend...

I have used 20+ rolls of this film and have not had any problems with the emulsion. Did have some excitement with some of the rools as the starter arrow was missing. But that cleared up with a newer batch. Also I have had the glued paper that was'nt and on a couple of rolls the sticky paper was missing altogether. I carry scotch tape in my bag so no big deal.

My only real compaint is how hard it is to get open a new spool, that paper band is on there to stay.

You might want to check if it isn't your camera that is doing the scratching. When I first started using Macophot film (Efke) I though that all my rolls were scratched, when in fact it was the camera. It did not stratch Tri-x, which has a tougher emulsion, but it did scratch the Maco/Efke. It turns out there were some imperfections in the rollers. I switched cameras, and the problem disapeared (well, sometimes the new camera will scratch a roll or two if I over tighen it when winding).

Just ran a roll...

I just processed a roll of 120 from the "new" batch - absolutely no problems. FWIW, I used Rodinal 1:50 at the recommended time of 13.5 minutes at 68F.

what a great film. I just developed my first 4 sheets of 8x10 J&C Pro 100. Stunning film. Great latitude and the contrast and tone look wonderful in the negatives. I developed them in PMK Pyro (1:2:100) for 13.5 mins per their suggested starting times developed and exposed at N 100EI. cant wait for them to dry and to make some contact prints.

great film and well worth the cost (which was quite affordable).

the only blatant "learning curve".... scratchs fairly easy. need to be more gentle on the film.

Oh i dont' doubt thats its a very nice film. Its performed well with my tests, aside from the scratches in the emulsion that I'm seeing. I don't know if it was the film or my camera, but i've never had that problem with any other film...including EFKE. Maybe I just got a bad batch...i got them back when they first started being sold by J&C, which was months ago. I just ordered another 20 rolls so we'll see how these fair. I hope theres no problems...can't beat a roll of 120 for a buck!
