Gee, and I always thought lawyers represented clients who filed lawsuits. I didn't realize that a lawyer could just go around filing lawsuits without any clients.

It's sad to see another supplier of quality products go out of business. B&S never directly competed with J&C, so we felt they were complimentary to our business, and vice versa.

I do know that it's difficult to speculate what "frivolous lawsuits" could mean. There are three options:
1. Lawsuits between manufacturers and their retailers.
2. Lawsuits between competing manufacturers and distributors.
3. Internal lawsuits among the partners of the company, their financial backers or others.

We'll probably never know the specifics of who was threatening whom with lawsuits, so I find it odd that they put that on their website, knowing that it was only going to cause rampant speculation. Very odd indeed...

We greatly appreciated J&C's past willingness to have a link exchange. We were happy to provide them 3000+ hits a month. We will not speculate what has happened in the end. This is none of our business nor is it anyone else's here.

I suggest we move on and support the companies that are left in the analog business, the few of us that are left.

There is a bronze inscription on a wall overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the University I graduated from, it says, "Things are Seldom what they Seem".

I wish John well and want him to know that the cutting and wrapping of the the 2x3 film I ask for was more than appreciated, he didn't have to do it but he did, it showed me what kind of man he is.

In the business world there is a take no hostages attitude. It just takes one person to break the straw that holds everything together. The people who run the businesses are human and have feelings and limits. Any doctor will tell you that they feel like they are in the paper work industry more than medicine. I know that any health care worker for example is always thinking "lawsuit". That's the world we live in and it's too bad.

I am going to keep an open mind, since I don't know the entire story, and wish him well in all of his future ventures both personal and professional.

I have no specific information on this matter whatsoever, but would merely observe that IF a certain manufacturer has an agreement by which another company is to act as a distributor/mail-order retailer, and this other company then ceases business activity, even on a claimed temporary basis, the manufacturer in question is going to suffer genuine loss and may well feel forced to search for other partners.

Similarly, the manufacturer may feel it necessary to take legal proceedings against the erstwhile distributor/mail-order retailer in order to clear the air and open the way to entering into a contractual relationship with a new distributor/mail-order retailer. I do not think it right to describe any such legal action as frivolous. I emphasise that these remarks are made in the abstract and do not relate to any specific case of which I have no knowledge.

To the extent that 'frivolous lawsuits' contributed to J and C's demise, one can only wonder how seemingly higher order primates can become brain dead parasites who kill the host. Stupid and sad.

I ordered 16x20 paper from John and knew it was the only place in the US that carried paper in 12x16 sizes. I'm so sorry. Best wishes to John for a happy turn of better fortune!

I just ordered some 12x16 from Freestyle. They carry just about everything I need (Efke, Rodinal, Fotokemika, Foma).

I've been buying Efke from freestyle for a while now. It's been rarely available from J&C for the last couple of years.

True, every time I went to the J&C website they were always out of the paper/film I needed. Nice to know it's still available somewhere, and with great knowledgeable CS as well, not just someone on an 800# just to take orders.

As most here said, I'm sorry JandC are leaving the business. I only ordered from them once, when they were having their "clearance sale", but hoped they would stay in business after the "suspension".

That said, they were a supplier of film and related analog products - not a manufacturer (an avenue down which they wanted to travel but may have been, in fact, their demise).

There are other suppliers offering the same or similar products. Suppliers go in an out of business - it's the rough nature of the retail game.

I wish John good luck in future endeavors.

They were also a great source for flash bulbs, less common 8mm/16mm stock, those cool 120 film cansiters, etc. I hope it works out that they can come back...

Although I've never ordered from J&C (if I can get it in Europe, it's easier for me), I've spent the odd hour every now and then browsing their site and dreaming of an order I would one day place. Sad to see this happen. I wish the people of J&C all the best.
