I never realized about this! Now every time I see an FM3a I will only see that different font! thank you for ruining that camera for me!
Here is the comparison. Interesting.

Had a F3 and a Fm2n back in the eighties. Always liked having one manual camera. That 24mm 2.8 is a sweet lens! I had the 24mm 2.8, 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4 and the 105mm 1.8 Sold it all to help fund a Leica kit. Not one of my smarter decisions.

Enjoy your new kit. There is plenty of great glass for that camera at good prices.

I really wish Nikon didn't use the ugly font on the fm3a

No only the wrong font but its spelled wrong too, Real cameras are spelled L_E_I_C_A

Nikon do make fake camera but the FM3a is a real camera although it did get the wrong font. You can get a faked Nikon F from Nikon (although I am not sure who made it) as a 100th anniversary item and it does have the right font.

Hardly Davidson, willie g sure wrecked that company, only amf did worse.

Were it not for American Machine and Foundry Harley-Davidson would be nothing but a memory. You ride? or just own a t-shirt?

The alternator, rubber mounted engines, balanced crankshafts, electronic ignition, disc brakes,5 speed transmission, modernized production methods/equipment,modern suspension.......there's more but we're on a photographic forum. Care to discuss it you can contact me. Me??????............38 year factory certified technician. 54 years riding.

The Nikon font used on the FM3a and other cameras of the later 1980s was used by Nikon in the 1950s. Look at a user manual, most any of their printed material.I just looked at my Nikon S2 manual- same font as the FM3a. The camera has a different font than that used for the manual.

I started out shooting Canon because I'd borrowed my Mom's AE-1 a few times and that was what I was familiar with. My FD system had grown to quite a large outfit when I decided to switch over to Nikon. This was 1989. I gradually moved over to the dark side and had a bit of fun while switching over. Since then, I've owned and used many different Nikons. As a result of my experiences, and based largely on my familiarity with the original Canon F-1, I became particularly fond of the FE because of its match-needle metering, and later, the FE2. Only drawback to the FE2 and FM2 (and quite a few other Nikons) is one cannot use unconverted pre-AI lenses on these cameras. And since I own several pre-AI lenses that haven't been converted to AI, this lack of compatibility matters. So if I'm carrying a full complement of lenses and my FE2 (I don't own an FM2 currently), I also carry an FE or an F2 with a DP-1 or DP-2 head. I actually prefer the F2 over the FE for using the old lenses because I can do full-aperture metering with the F2, not so with the FE.

Getting back to the FM/FM2, it might not be as robust as an F2 or a Nikkormat, but it is certainly robust enough. Over the past four decades, the FM/FM2/FM2n has certainly proved itself to be an exceptionally reliable photographic tool. If one takes care of his photo equipment, like I do, I don't see why this camera shouldn't last another four decades.
