I dont know why this person bothers you.. seems to be the norm for ebay.
Hopefully anyone buying these types of lenses will frequent this and other forums and ask questions before buying.

This seller goes way beyond anyone else I've seen on eBay. I've reported his auctions to eBay before, but nothings every happened. I'm joining Jim on this one, with the hope that multiple complaints will bring some action.

Over-stating the equipments, gross exaggeration, adding words that have no relevance in the titles. When has a Ross WA been an Ektar ?

Dan, I'm sure some of the images are the same as Pak Harry's, the Dagor literature seems familiar. And 270216352302 the triple convertible Linhof f6.8 90mm Angulon is very definitely Pak Harry again.

Title spamming is where you put names in the title that people have in their search engines in order to get a lot of people looking at your sale that has nothing what-so-ever to do with the word you used, like Verito and Golden Dagor. Both are high dollar items in demand and this guy is not only re-directing traffic, he's over embelishing by HUGE amount with his false associations. Actually many of his lenses are fantastic in their own right if represented correctly. Large landscape meniscus lenses are similar to what you get with the much more expensive Gundlach Achromatic Meniscus lens. They're basically the same thing. And the Puyo artistique lens is probably a very worthy piece. But it has nothing in common with a Verito.

Dave, a Golden Dagor is nothing more than a very late model Goerz Dagor. The factory ran out of black paint and some genious said let's polish the brass and lacquer it and call it a Golden Dagor. Collectors pay as much as 3 times for the varnish vss. paint version. Nothing that this seller called a Golden Dagor is even remotely close.

I see the extraordinary shipping costs frequently.

However, unless it hits eBay's revenues directly, it does not always appear to get their attention.

Shipping costs do hit Ebay. That's the point. Ebay doesn't or didn't charge on the total bill. So sellers could avoid paying higher Ebay fees by lowering the selling price and tacking on high shipping.

Ebay is the main group hurt by high shipping. The rest of us tend to care about the total price. High shipping means lower bids.

I too was a bit confused until you posted this.

I can appreciate your point - and it's all too prevelant on eBay.

However, I suspect that there really isn't too much they can do to stop it. Too many items in too many categories for too brief a time to police to that level of detail.

BTW: I was concerned for you when I read about the e-quake in Wells. Will PM.

I agree, however eBay has not actively chased after it.

I am still a little cranky about the issue of feedback and how they do not or have not addressed some of the bad actors i.e. "you leave justified negative feedback for me, then i will do the same to you". Therefore no one effectively addresses the bad actors for fear of getting negative feedback.

Seams kinda minor to me just the normal eBay thing, like sorting through the junk bin at the local camera store!! The one auction I looked at was actually factual "Taylor Hobson Cooke Convertible Brass Lens 4x5 5x7 8x10" will the lens in question work on all the listed cameras?

Find me the word Cooke on that lens. Cooke hadn't invented the Cooke triplet when TTH manufactured that lens. The name game is a deliberate attempt to get folks that are looking for a series XV Cooke Convertible and have those delineators in their search engines to this auction which has nothing to do with a Cooke lens.

Normally I overlook a LOT of this sort of thing from ignorant folk to ignorant folk but this guy is abusive and it's on purpose.

Sorry but I am big on personal responsibility---you and you are only responsible for your actions. If you do not know anything about classic/vintage lenses then maybe you shouldn't be laying down the coin until you educate yourself. All I know about the classic/vintage lenses is some sure look pretty--his look pretty. So if I ever want a pretty lens I might look him up-he seams good with the Brasso.

I have to disagree with 23mjm. This guy in Australia is using language to mislead people into buying something that is not what it actually is, most of the time. Yeh sure, people have personal responsibility, which generally means with regards to their own actions and inter-actions with other people. This seller is not exhibiting personal responsibility. There are a lot of people selling on ebay who clearly do not have much knowledge about the stuff they are selling. This guy has some idea and is combining jargon and juxtaposing photographic names and terms into a hard sell of bullshit (for the majority of the items I have seen) I am in no way an expert, but I would trust Jim Galli's judgement on such things. There is one seller in California which has a Hollywood sign emblazoned on its adverts and gives wonderful descriptions, charges a very high price and then lower down the page actually states that the camera doesn't even work, sneeky...?

EBay is Buyer Beware!!!! If you don't take the time to read the whole description, or ask the seller questions, then I have no sympathy for the person. But if the seller has misrepresented the item, and it is not the same as the description and photograph then I really would have a problem.

....Also, don't buy from pawnbrokers or pawnshops on ebay. They don't know crap about the lenses they're selling or what the pictures look like coming out. I could take a faulty lens to any shop, talk it up a whole lot and give them a written discription of the lens. They don't care as long as they make their 30% on the sale. Ontop of that, they have all kinds of checks and balances to wave away responsibility like not recording the address or phone number of the seller, claims that it wasn't their description -it was the sellers and that they sell used items so they assume no responsibilty for the condition of the equipment. Pawnshops have to be the biggest sleezeballs ever. I have yet to meet one that I've been able to trust. I've even seen one trying to sell illegal weapons to kids. That should tell you something.

Must agree with all the foregoing but I have had OK dealings with cameo_need_ham. First purchase was my fault. totally inappropriate item due to as indicated, faulty title wording. He even included an extra lens in the parcel. That doesn't happen often. He eagerly refunded including postage not even mentioning the extra lens,which I also sent. Comments like 'Got information out of a book" etc were the explanation.

Second purchase was as indicated, two old things and he was very amenable regarding final price and postage etc.

Another purchase was price agreed and with a 0 bid close was put through again at the agreed BIN price.

To be honest I find the man good to communicate with. If only he had more stuff useful to me.

While that's very true, FleaBay wants the business regardless of how many sellers operate - as long as they're paid for their site they could care less.
