My cars - every last one of them - have been American cars. While I was growing up, my parents shot American made film (Kodachrome) in an American made camera (Kodak Instamatic). I shot American made film because that was what was available to me locally, but in a Japanese camera (Pentax ME Super). My current 35mm camera is still Japanese (a Pentax) because I feel I get the most bang for my money with that brand. My film horizons, however, have broadened since I became an adult. I now shoot Fuji, Agfa-Gevaert, Ilford, and Kodak film. I still shoot film for two reasons:

1. I can
2. Film gives me results I can't get from digital

I do shoot some digital as well, but mostly film. I don't need to enter a contest to get satisfaction, I mostly do it for me and my family.

I will never use a japanese camera or japanese car...

Just curious, why? I ride a 40 year old plus Honda 750, and have had several Honda autos and several Nikon cameras. I wouldn't presume they are the best in the world but they are all reasonably priced and very reliable.

I will never use a japanese camera or japanese car , my next car is a TIR truck from Europe and 1A Leica. 450hp and 4500cc and more comfortable than your best chair and bed in your home. And you can fill it and Istanbul to Scotland and back without refill. People can squeeze in to their toy car.

That's funny, all my cars and motorcycle are Japanese. But I don't know what that has to do with film, although I used to shoot Fuji chromes exclusively I don't anymore because they aren't the best available anymore.

Fujichrome is ALL that's available now! Kodak quit making slide film a couple years ago.

There are a couple utilities, in addition to exiftool... Reveal, which is available for both Windows and OS X, and AnalogEXIF on OS X. Copy the data from a Nikon digital body/lens combo's image file, and insert that into the scanned file. Both Reveal and AnalogEXIF have a GUI, so they're easier to use than the command line exiftool application.

With respect to cameras and cars, etc, I drive swedish cars. But, my photo gear at this time is Nikon. Has been for years. Used to shoot Fuji film, but now have gone to Ektar, Portra, and Ilford B&W. Too many films I've liked from Fuji have been discontinued. Not much is left that I like, I'm afraid.

Nikon should offer a new F6 and an APUG membership as a prize:D

What someone else hinted at, I'm sure the contest is rigged so that only Nikon cameras win, so they want the EXIF data so they can exclude images made by other cameras...

As I recall, the rule started after the previous winner was an image shot on film when they were promoting digital and wanted to avoid that in the future, but I could be wrong, just kind of a vague memory, every year this thread pops up.

I think that you got that right. I agree with you.

Precisely! Maybe I'll take a pic of one of my wet prints with my D4000 and submit that...

Fujichrome is ALL that's available now!

Not in 4x5, which is all I ever used. I suppose it may be available in other formats. But I don't even care about that now since Ilfochrome is gone too.

You mean there's anything other than Fuji in 4x5 E6?
At least in rolls there's Avichrome and maybe ferrania soon, in sheets there's Fuji or nix.

B & H shows Fuji RDP-III (Provia 100) and RVP 100 (Velvia) E-6 transparency films in both 4x5 and 8x10 sheets.

Maybe its available this week/month, I stopped shooting it several years ago and people paid good money for my old outdated stock so I assumed it was unavailable. I'm happy to be wrong, but I still won't buy it because I can't print it directly.

right on

They don't want anyone to have an unfair advantage.

Yeah right on Bill. Bloody mobile phones being validated by Nikon for a photography contest and my F6 inelligible??? Unbelievable. Funny how the world is accepting of so much low grade imagery on the news and on TV. So much fake stuff out there that I guess film scans are hard to prove as untouched so that must be their reason.

No, the reason is they're trying to sell more new cameras. It's as much an effort to capitalize on their name and get people to keep using what they're selling as it is anything else. It is not, and has not been for some time, a contest about photography.

Digital cameras write metadata into their files that say the name of the camera used to make it. Most digital SLRs not only record the camera model, but the lens model, aperture and shutter speed used, exposure mode used (manual, program, etc.), if flash was used, date and time the photo was taken. Some film scanners put in the file the model of scanner used. You can read this metadata in photoshop by choosing FILE INFO under the file menu, and you can add to it by adding a copyright notice, your contact info, a title, a written description, and a list of keywords.

So, Nikon can easily see what the photo was shot with.
You can overwrite this data and add anything you like.

Scanner: QuickCam 8.4.1 CD
Lens: Potato
Sensor: Erase head Denon DR-M30HX
Camera: Flat Earth

From the current (2018) Nikon Photo Contest FAQ:

Q. Can I submit image data that is a scan of a photograph taken with a film camera?

A. Yes, you can submit it.

If those are the standing rules, then it's not a photography contest in my opinion. It's a "Digital Imaging" contest. It would not be in their interest if a film product won a top prize. Or any prize for that matter.

DannL succinctly said it all. All other posts are only voices of frustration...which is ok to express. Nikon is now an electronics company. As for cameras, designers and marketing must constantly conceive some new tweak that will convince owners that their previous model is out of date and must be replaced.
My own Nikon upgrade a couple years ago was to add an F2 to my F, first bought from Japan in 1959.

I wouldn't worry too much. As the large companies abandon the medium, smaller companies and cottage industries will inevitably crop up to meet the demand (as has been happening all around us).

this thread cracked me up
complaining a company that makes
digital cameras won't allow film made images in their contest
its very much like when apug users used to tell digital or hybrid users
to take off if they wanted to post in the forum or gallery..
and just like photrio is welcoming now it seems the contest is welcoming now as well ..
