Yeah, we've "talked" about that. We better get our act together and plan a trip!

We know who we are.

OK, here's the deal!

Matt is giving a "lecture" at his show on Wednesday, February 1st @ 7:00. I know (and Matt knows  ) it's in the middle of the week. Deal with it.

Lee and I have talked, and we are willing:
  • to take off a half day,
  • leave about 2:00,
  • make the drive to Austin from DFW,
  • needle Matt unmercifully,
  • get some dinner,
  • and drive back.
It's 3 hours +/- each way. We'll get back past our bedtimes, but we're big boys. Surely there are 3 or 4 of us in North Texas that can share the ride (and gas money) and do this.

And the Houston contingent - you can do this, too!

Let's support this up and coming apugger before he gets so famous he won't talk to us.

OK - the gauntlet is down. Who's gonna step up?

I will have a class that night but I've never been one to attend religiously anyway

Just remind so I can make sure I don't have an exam that day and I will definitely be there.

Yeah, I think that as long as my studies allow it, I'd be tagging along.

Well - "best laid plans ..."

I will be in "Our Nation's Capital"* early next week. I will be returning to Dallas on Wed. with a "scheduled" arrival of 12:18! This will give me time to go to the bathroom and get lunch before heading to Austin.

I'm going to play it by ear. I still think enough of you should get together and go down there - and if I can make it - bonus!

Whadda y'all think?

David

I have class until 2pm on Wednesday, but if anyone is willing to make a mad dash then I'm up for it :D

Normally I would just skip out, but my prof must have known and we have a test scheduled.

Crap, I'm completely swamped. I spend everyday from breakfast to dinner studying, and I'm barely keeping up. I'm going to have to pass...

I was planning to head up on Wednesday, and then my car decided to break. Hopefully it'll get out of the shop in time to head out for the lecture.

It's always something, isn't it? Tests, too much to do, no way to get there...

Killing time before the lecture

I'm going to be killing time between the time I leave work and Matt's lecture, so do y'all want to meet somewhere for dinner? There are several restaurants nearby, Chuy's, Shady Grove, Romeo's, ... any ideas?

The weather may or may not be nice enough to sit outdoors at Shady Grove.

The lecture is at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden isn't it?

Nathan,
You are correct. The lecture is literally at the garden. In the visitors center. Its free to the public, free wine and cheese. There is a "meet the artist" at 630pm - Im looking forward to meeting this individual . With the lecture at 7pm. Im not sure exactly how long it will run. I'll likely end up talking for too long and then hopefully that will illicit some questions from people. So I bet about an hour maybe. But who knows.
Anyone that happens to be in the Austin area or close by, it would be wonderful to meet some fellow photographers etc.
Hope to see anyone out there that can make it.

if you have any questions about how to get there or any thing else, feel free to email or PM me.

I'm happy to report that Matt's first show was a resounding success, by my judgement anyway. As you might well imagine, his prints are much, much more beautiful in actuality than what we've been able to see in his on-line scans ... and bigger! The 7x17 format really is gorgeous, and works so well with the platinum/palladium method.

Matt did a fine job of explaining the process by which he makes his prints, from setting up and using the big camera to coating the paper and making the print. Their was a good crowd, good wine, good questions (and answers) ... and I only heard the word "d*g*tal" once

Congratulations, Matt, on a fine first show - I'm sure there will be many more to come.

nathan thank you so much. it was wonderful to meet you finally.

Im so glad you enjoyed the show and prints.
The talk seemed to go pretty well. I loved when people started asking questions it was nice to start conversing with people.

Same, here, Matt! Sorry I couldn't make it down. I woke up 1200 miles away yesterday morning, and getting to Austin just wasn't going to happen.

You're right, Nathan. Matt's prints in the "flesh" are better than the images in the APUG galleries or even on his website.

Congrats to Scooter! I'm happy to be able to say that I know him.
