You are far from truth: scanning paper is a lot closer to showing real photography than scanning a negative. That, in opinion of most printers in the world.
I agree with your point if you can get a decent scan of a print and print your own stuff.

I use to have a lot of prints hung on the walls, No longer since we moved. However, currently, I don't have a darkroom. All my developing is done in a pro lab. I don't have them print as I enjoy scanning my negatives and posting them in FLickr or making slide shows that I present on a 75" UHDTV or on Youtube. I enjoy sharing my work online with others. That requires scanning. I would love to see your work. Do you have a link?
