Since my EF really does look like new, I want to get a 2 piece case and put the bottom part on when I use it to protect it from scratches and damage. Did anyone make such a case for the EF?

-) did Canon not offer such? (And only started so with the A-Family?)

-) might not a A-undercase fit (maybe with slight modifications?)

-) could you not DIY a fitting undercase (two pieces of leather, glued together and a mounting screw taken from another case)?

You're making me think back 40 years, but I bought a EF when they first came out. It came with a two-pece case. No idea what the part number would be.

If you can't find an original EF case, maybe one from an F-1 would fit.

I wouldn't bother all the Canon FD ER cases even for the F1 weren't leather and made from some sort of compressed cardboard made to look like leather that eventually moult, they were crap I have several of them.

If you can't find a case that will fit, consider making one from scratch. It may take time and a bit of trial and error to get it to fit perfectly, but it can be a fun and very rewarding project.

All of the F-1 and F-1n eveready cases I own and have seen are made of leather. The cases for the FTb were also made of leather for the first few years before being replaced by the cheaper fiber-based ones. I have never seen an EF case in leather, but I recall hearing from an EF owner who has one. The following thread may be of interest:

There was a case for the EF. It was real leather. It looks about identical to the ever ready case for the (mechanical) F-1, EXCEPT that the screw that holds the case to the body is off center more than the f-1. (If you have what looks like an F-1 case that doesn't fit your F-1 (mechanical) because the screw for the case doesn't like up with the socket on the camera, it's probably the case for an EF. You could remove the screw from an F-1 case and it would more or less "fit" EXCEPT, that then it would not screw to the camera body. The F-1 case is also leather and a good replacement for the case on an FT-b. All of the later Canon FT-b (junk) cases have died of leprosy (disintegrated).

Since there were a lot fewer EF bodies than F-1 bodies, they are considerably scarcer than the cases for the F-1.

It's ironic that many of the aftermarket ("generic") cases for the A series Canons have held up better than Canon's OEM case.

I use a Nikon F2 case for the Canon EF, moved the center screw. The Nikon cases are a metal shell with velvet lining and leather. They are plentiful compared with the Canon cases, often go very cheap, like $10 or so.

Last week an EF arrived. It came with a 50/1.4 FD SSC and an original case. The price for the package? US$26.00. The camera seems to function correctly and doesn't appear to have been used much. It even has its hot shoe cover in place. The lens has oil on the blades but is otherwise in good condition. The oil makes me thing the lens must have been somewhere warm but it is probably about 40 years old so I can't complain. The case? It looks like the second type and has many cracks. I'll probably throw it out unless I want to try it as a pattern. The focusing screen is the plain microprism type and not the later split image/microprism combination. I don't know what year that change was made or whether buyers had a choice. I have an overhauled EF which I sometimes use and three others in various states or repair. If you can remember to turn off the meter when you're not using the camera, you can get acceptable battery life.

Canon certainly did make a case for it but I would think it's hard to find one now. If your EF doesn't look pretty why do you need to protect it? Just being careful is sufficient to prevent further scratches.

My sample got oily blades after about 30 years at 20°C.
