If you can afford it - then buy it. Not important is it GF670, or Leica, or iPhone ... all those items are expensive, but if you can afford it - life is too short, be happy and enjoy beautiful items that you desire, and make nice pictures. Simple as that.

Very well said. It hurt for all of one month and then I forgot about the price of my GF670W. Nearly 5 years later, the price doesnt even enter my mind, except in threads like this!

In business the price is never irrelevant. I shot sports for a living with an 7D and a 6D not a 1DX because my clients were happy with the results. Certainly the 1DX was a more powerful tool but there was no reason for me to spend the extra money.
In the end, of course, if the tool you're using produces the results you need, then by all means use that tool. If you don't need what the 1DX provides that's above what the 7D and 6D do, you don't need it and it is wasted money. But there are obviously a large number of pro sports photographers who feel they do need that above and beyond, and are willing to spend the money. And there are also a large number of wannabes with fat bank accounts who view the "top of the line" as a status accessory and buy it even though they will never use the capabilities they're paying extra for.

Spending money just because you can spend it is not a particularly healthy habit to get into. Look up the car Warren Buffet drives.

I consider my cameras strictly as tools with the only question being if the tool has a benefit in line with the price.

In this thread I ask if there is really that much of a benefit of getting a GF670 vs the GW670 at more than twice the price.

It's not necessarily a matter of if I can afford it or not.

It is even more simple - then don't buy it.
I got Olympus RC35 for 20€, and it makes good pictures. I got M6 for >1000€ and it also makes good pictures. Those 100x bigger prices will not give you 100x better quality, but subtle improvements. The same is with cars, and any other products, when going in top niche - the price goes exponentially - and improvements are small, but very fine and pleasing. Toyota (excellent cars btw) that costs 20.000$ will make the same job as Mercedes that costs 220.000$ (drive you from A to B).

Once when you die - you cannot take money on the other side.
Whatever makes you happy.

The price differential is always particular to you. People can tell you the technical advantages, handling improvements and what not that may or may not be there. Are they worth it? Well it is up to you. Someone, somewhere else asked why would anyone spend money on a camera when their phone has one. Someone else asked why would anyone waste money buying and processing film when a digital P&S will give you countless photos "free" for the cost of 20-30 rolls of 120 film. Someone else asked is it really worth wasting money on 120 when 35mm will do just fine. Someone else asked if the price of large format equipment, film sheets and processing is really worth it over using some 120 camera. Someone else asked if a Hasselblad is worth the money when you can buy a complete Bronica outfit for the price of a 501 kit. And so on and so on.

The benefit in price can only be determined by you. It is your money, your circumstances. Apparently Warren Buffet uses a Cadillac XTS. Then again, he could be driving a 20 year old Honda, will still take him from A to B. We all splash out some cash on things we like, some a bit more, some a bit less but in the end let's not forget that all this camera stuff we talk about here is not "worth it" to the large numbers of people on this planet using the digital cameras and they even are considered "wasteful" by the vast majority of people globally that only use the camera on their phone.

Just look at 'em! How can they not be worth buying????

Let's see... $1500 for the new camera, $500,000 for the divorce if I get another camera, that comes out to $501,500 ... But is there sales tax and shipping added? Hmmm

Or just borrow the money and never pay it back. Seems to work for our Natl leadership.

LOL, I kid you not but over here prior to the crash financial gurus were telling people to keep getting 0 percent introductory deals on credit cards and just keeping moving the debt around between multiple cards. Some thought they had discovered alchemy. No wonder the national debt is so high.

Here they pickpocket your credit card, throw themselves a trillion dollar party, then throw you a few jelly beans telling you they're doing you a favor. But the tab with interest will come due on the next generation. I don't do anything on credit. But it wasn't the price of that cool Fuji that stopped me. I just didn't feel quite right in my hands, while the Texas Leica did.

.

The main differences between the GF and GW is the GF can do multi format (6x6, 6x7) has a light meter (not TTL) and it folds up. Both have excellent Fuji lenses, so image quality is excellent with both. Both are well proven cameras that will last a long time. Are those three features worth the price difference to you? That's a question only you can answer.

That's all a red herring though. The OP was asking to compare a Fuji 6x7 rangefinder to a Fuji 6x7 rangefinder, not 120 to 35mm or Bronica to Hasselbald.

Ok, so Warren Buffet splashed out a 40k (or whatever it costs) on a XTS vs buying a 1990s used Cadillac for $500. Is the XTS worth it, it is just a tool getting you from A to B. Anyways, we digress.

I had em all in my hands - an immaculate demo GF at a very reasonable price, a flawless M7 w/lens for about the same. I already own a P67 SLR system, so wanted something more portable than either that or my view camera gear. Just had to feel right and be realistic in the brutal weather I knew it would get. I settled on a far less expensive GW690ii, which just as easily is defacto 6x7 if you don't mind only 8 shots per roll and a bit of cropping. Otherwise, there is a 10-shot true 6x7 version. But I'm very pleased with my choice. It really is a good idea to get your hands on potential choices first. Ergonomics can be highly personal.

Very very true. I never would have bought the GF670W had I not held it in my hands first. Once I did however, the chance of me not buying one was almost zero.

When I sold cameras, I would ask the customers how the cameras felt in their hands. If a camera is too large or too small for your hands you will never be happy with it or use it. The only hands that matter is your hands.

Ditto. That’s why different kinds and models are made.

My fingers are miserable with tendonitis today. That's why I'm inside today, waiting a couple more days to do another 8x10 walk, when this cold windy snap is forecast to briefly settle. Want a heavy excercise pack. If it were the P6x7 or 6x9RF, I'd simply carry a minimal shoulder bag, wear shooter gloves, and carry the tripod rifle-style over my shoulder. I have small painful hands, so have to be careful even with my choice of power tools - but I was a major dealer of those before I retired, selling the best brands period, mostly German or true Japanese. Actual US mfg is almost non-existent now. Some of the German gear is built for the hands of an 8ft tall Helga wearing a horned helmet, while gear intended for the SE Asian market has grips way to small for even me. I've had many sessions with both German and Japanese engineers redesigning tool ergonomics. I personally have cramped hands holding "boxy" 6x6 SLR's. The P67 and Texas Leicas are comfortable and intuitive for me.

Very nice. My GF670 was lonely so I have a GF670 Wide on the way so they can keep each other company. Worst excuse for a purchase ever? :D Seriously though, I alway wanted both but never got round to getting the wide. Your cameras look pristine. My folder is a bit more battered. I bought it new but it has been in the mountains a lot. The fact the folder hangs vertically on the neck strap means it is easy to bang it against sharp rocks when scrambling. Managed to scratch the top plate several times but too bad, it's done now. It was bought to be used. Still works perfectly.
