to sell photographs of musicians? I have been photographing bands for about 3 years now, (Dave Matthews, REM, Spoon, Travis, Keane, ...quite a collection growing) and have been getting folks asking to purchase some of them. Can I sell them? I have had Photo Access passes to concerts from the Bands/venues/management...but never been paid for what I do so I wouldn't be breaking any work for hire agreements or such.

Thanks for any feedback!
Heather

I don't see why you need a release if your there with permission, I shoot bands regularly and have never had a release or anything in writing in 35 years. I am careful which images get used though.

thank you Ian, that was my gut feeling but as children's photog I am extra sensitive to model releases etc.
I love photographing bands and musicians, it would be nice to earn ($$) myself some more time to do it!
Great color in your Musician Gallery, I struggle with the color work.
Being careful...can you elaborate?

That's easy Heather, I don't release or use images that would be detrimental to performers. Also I have been known to refuse to photograph a band, only one mind you that was "Splogginess Abounds" a Punk band, I was photographing the support act and they asked me to shoot images for them as well. I declined because I saw them glue sniffing, taking pills and more, they were a very unpleasant bunch.

Most of my shoots now are for a record company, I've been friends with the main driving force since the mid 70's, and I can actually ask for concerts to be at specific venues where I know the lighting engineers and can virtually guarante I'll get good results.

Unfortunately the special push process E6 films I used to use for colour aren't made any more so I no longer use colour film.

Hah, my dream band! I want to be there when one ODs on stage! Now THAT would be a photo!
