Is may paper in danger?

I am storing my paper in the refrigerator, I have noticed that the corners of the boxes are cracking. I have duct taped some of the corners a while ago and on those boxes I find that the top of the box, leading into the corners, are still cracking. I believe that I need to put the boxes into large zip lock type bag and I am thinking if I can find individual packets of silica or other humectants to toss one of those in the zip lock bag as well.

Are there any suggestions? Should I be storing refrigerated paper in something other than the original box (and black bag) it comes in?

I have not noticed this effect in 20 years of storing Agfa, Kodak or Ilford paper boxes in the fridge. What paper brand are we talking about?

They are Ilford boxes. The ones that are cracked were given to me so there is no telling how old they are, but maybe only one of them had the beginnings of cracks/frayed edges when I got them so I taped up the corners. Several years, 2-3 careful moves later, it seems like there are more cracks in the boxes.

I am also noticing the smaller packages (25 sheets) seem a little warped like too much moisture is getting to the paper packaging, hence the thought that I need to place them in zippered bags with desiccants. Perhaps the moisture in my fridge is affecting the box corners more than would normally be the case for refrigerated paper?

I store all of my photo paper and film boxes inside of large zip-lock type bags before placing them in the freezer. No problems with the boxes. Just allow some time for thawing.

Is it possible that you are pushing the boxes too far into the fridge, and they are touching a condensation plate in the back?
