No, but this obviously is because it is big (XL).

So in the art world size matters.

Does that mean if I make an XXL I can charge even more?

This site went through a big upgrade. But basically not much changed. Is there a way to hide the basic thread categories that attract the political and philosophical agendas, and yet allow posting access to topical inquiries? I'll be glad when this entire 8 year siege is over.

yup
i agree, people love grinding axes

and yup

you go to the forum tab, and click on the topics you don't want to read, above all the posts / started threads you will see 2 tabs just below the search bar, one says " watch forum " the other says "ignore forum "
and you just click on that, refresh the page, and the forum will be disappeared. if it is people you wish to ignore, not just forums, you click on their avatar and a box will pop up
giving you a few options- start a conversation, follow, profile and ignore ... if you click on ignore, you won't read the things they write that might bother you.
if you decide at a later date that you really do miss the political/agenda threads and peoples you can go to your quick view settings by hoovering your mouse curser over your name above the search bar
and a box pops up that lists a few options including people, forums and threads ignored. you adjust your viewing as needed

good luck !

...I think I'm in the wrong job:cry:

Fortunately, I never looked at my art-making as a job...instead as a way of life. But I have joked that I held multiple 'jobs': artist, darkroom tech, and husband/father.

Actually a few years ago I got fired from the husband job...sometimes things just work out for the best. I got transferred out of the darkroom tech job, then I retired. So the only jobs I have left are artistry and fatherhood. Both pay very well, unfortunately not very much in cash.

PS -- so he is the one who started the using bookpages as canvases!

I don't think of my photography as "art" but other prople seem to think it is and who am I to argue about That. I do look at it from the potential commercial aspect as if it pays for itself then great.
I did a rough calculation on his sales from the exhibition and it was over £400,000 I think. I could retire on that.

That is what is great about being an artist -- you don't have to call yourself one if you don't want to.

Just as a test of how the new image uploading and dispaly works, here is one my non art photos of sea defences. I'm looking to see how large image sizes display and will then delete it.
[edit]
seems to work pretty well as image is auto scaled to fit screen which is cool.

To me the entire page from the provided link is load of crap.
I'm not into paying for, but looking at digital images extremist.
But even something which was created with more traditional method is crap on this page. Not regular gallery item.
More like charity sale, work of blind or other health complications people. In this case I have nothing against of showing it and understand high price.

Whether it's art or not depends on the output of the artist over a period of time. Who buys their stuff, how much to they pay for it, how many retrospectives/articles/interviews the individual has had, and how high is their stock in the art world. An individual image doesn't tell us very much. The fact it hasn't sold suggests his agent has shot his bolt on this one. Do that too many times, and prices will go into reverse.

You should read his wikipedia page and see his website.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfgang_Tillmans
http://www.tillmans.co.uk/

He has pretty high artist credentials and is a Royal Academician which is the meaning of the RA after his name. That means he is a member of the Royal Academy which means he entitled to exhibit his work in the annual summer exhibition. Only the elite artists get to be invited to be a royal academician.

If it is art I'd say its lowbrow art but I would suggest its more a piss take than anything else. Amusing himself.

The work is in keeping with the rest of Tillman's oeuvre. As a former Turner prize winner the price is not exceptional. Not my cup of tea, nor it would seem the art market's as a whole.

The RA summer exhibition being open to anyone, probably isn't the exhibition to be selling his work. I notice that virtually none of the other work in that gallery sold and it was nearly all by RAs and at high prices. I rekon its not an exhibition that the really big spenders take too seriously and don't show up for it.

RA members get their work in automatically, so no hurdles for Tillmans to jump through. The summer exhibition is for Sunday painters and art teachers to chance their arm, RA types put stuff in because they can and to show they're still alive.

That's debateable given the look of some of it:D:D

I saw a Wolfgang Tillmans show in Chicago a few years ago and I left totally unimpressed. The presentation of the inkjet prints were unframed clipped with binder clips. One image was someone urinating on a chair. I tried to keep an open mind, but that wasn't enough. I just don't get it.

I smell a rat when I see colour photographs printed Very Large. Many years ago there was a UK comedy show called "Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width".

Smelling a rat (in the pantry) - there might be one!
Smelling it does not mean, you'll get it - that's quite another challenge.
Never mind!
I wonder, though, if the picture we're attempting to discuss here is about feeling, the width (138 cm) or rather the height (208 cm - well adjusted to fit on a wall, standard room height is 240 cm)? Or is it not about content at all but the artistic arrangement of units of space - pale hairy structures, lines, balanced patches of black and red....
Well, I don't mind.
BTW, what's the ladies' view? They're a potent clientele for artists, too.
The OP's question also implies: What is art? And what is the value to be attached?
We all know how poorly Frank's "The Americans" was received, or Rushka's "66 petrol stations", or van Gogh's paintings.
I'd think this is entirely in the eye of the beholder (a beholder's eye well trained by hoards of marketing, sales and "art" experts?). The value may well follow the (expected) depth of the pockets of the prospective (targeted?) buyer. It may be interesting to find out who buys what, who would buy or invest in a Tillmans rather than a, say, Th. Ruff?
