Yes, Emofin contains a p-phenylenediamine derivative, I think it is CD-1 and that is the reason for the staining.

I did indeed shoot the EDU film at 100, so thanks for the tip timor. Will shoot it at ISO 50 as you suggested next time. I bought it just to play with as it was so cheap, along w/ some Ultrafine 100 in 120 format. The Ultrafine was garbage, w/ big numbers all over the (fogged) image.

Ultrafine 100 ? Never used it, but I heard the bad rap. However I bought once Ultrafine Extreme 400 in 120, 10 rolls and had no problems. This species lacks AH layer. Always something...

Well, that's my recent experience of Lomo Lady Grey in 120 as well. Same factory, perhaps? No Ultrafine or Lomo film in 120 for me again!

Emofin contains CD-1 (N, N-diethyl p-phenylenediamine sulfate). As such it is capable of causing dermatitis, blisters and intense itching in sensitive individuals. Using blue nitrile gloves is highly recommended to avoid contact with the power or its solution. When mixing the developer a dust mask and goggles should be used. This chemical can also cause cross sensitizing to other developing agents such as Metol.

I'm reluctant to even use Metol, give the availability of PQ developers and PQ formula.

Emofin once was sold as a 2-liquids kit. I don't know why Tetenal did not keep it that way.

Back then when I started photography I used Ultrafin (possibly the Metol containing version) as the only film developer and though being careful I somehow got a few drops of the concentrate on my uncovered skin and in spite of rinsing my hand with running water within a few seconds I got severly itching blisters.

Id suggest this is false information e.g. Microphen is a better fine grain developer than D76 (or ID11) as it is faster with most films and lower fog if you over develop(and as cheap from the published clone ID68 if you buy bulk chemicals), you will be really sorry if you get sensitized to metol.

Since most of the developers that I routinely use is of the PQ type, I'm safe. Still, ID11 proved itself over the years. Microphen was my 'standard' many years ago when I pushed HP5, Ilford Pan 400 and sometimes Tri-X to the sky. I'm using Ilfotec HC for some time now.

True. Rodinal made by Agfa in Weihingen-Enz was bottled this way.

Well, how long can I expect my newly opened, fresh bottle of Adox Adonal to last? The last Rodial I bought was 8+ yrs. ago or more and it's still working just fine. JohnW

Actually, it IS exactly Rodinal formula, to the exact formula, they own it, didn't I cover that already or was that a different thread? R09 is not the same formula (exactly, similar, but not exact) but Adox Adonal IS the exact formula...

If it's Adox Adonal bought now, it will last just as long, same formula, to the microgram.

That's what I thought too, but the Italian Stallion above, says it's not and here's his quote, "Adonal IS NOT Rodinal, it hasn't the Rodinal long shelf life". This is the kind of "back and forth" that makes things confusing. JohnW

I know, I can't recall the guys name but on an APUG thread a rep from Adox definitely stated that they produced the LATEST formula that Rodinal was made in and that all others were similar or older versions of the formula. They couldn't say that without being sued if it weren't true.

I can't find the thread link.

It doesn't mean the other formulas won't last as long, or close, they are all probably relatively stable, but if you want to use Rodinal, then buy Adox Adonal.

Also he said they recently bought the rights to the name Rodinal and would probably start using that name to give clarity to the whole thing. Not sure when they will happen though.

You're ridiculous, that's probably a preventative seal for shipping without spillage for chemistry anti-spill reasons.

I discovered a huge crack in my glass bottle lid (I like using glass bottles and always transfer my dev's into glass) cracked, and was sitting lid open for a month without even a cap on, and the developer was fine.

You're just playing devils advocate to appear superior because who knows why.

I just spent 20 minutes looking for the thread but I'm on my phone and couldn't find it, but it's there somewhere and other posters have also linked it in other Rodinal posts (there are so many) so why not do your own research if you don't believe me. I'm not your secretary.

Anyway believe me or don't and be a stubborn half horse half donkey sterile "stallion" (mule).
