is catechol the same as catechin

I'm ordering bulk chemicals to roll my own Pyrocat-HD. Cheaper that way. Sandy's formula calls for Pyrocatechin. I am finding catechol. Photoformulary calls it Catechol (pyrocatechin). Art craft only sells catechol. I'm just checking to make sure it really is the same thing.

All correct. But the name catechin (without pyro-) can be something different, nothing to do with photography. One web site suggests that pyrocatechin is an obsolete name for pyrocatechol/catechol.

The old German name for Catechol is Brenzkatechin.
