Is anyone using a Durst L1000. Need some measurements

I have an old Durst L1000 which I'm trying to fix up. I contacted Northern Photographic in the UK who are listed on the Durst site as holding the spares for older enlargers but they have nothing at all for the L1000.

The parts I need are the opal lamp housing cover and the Taufil filter holder. As I can't get these parts through retail I'm going to have to get them fabricated. What I need are the dimensions for the lamp housing cover, particularly the height (and any cooling slots etc.) and preferably a picture of the filter holder. Does anyone have this particular enlarger that I can get photos, measurements from. I have the Durst manual for the enlarger but it's not much help.

Filter holder?? What filter holder??

I purchased one recently but unfortunately I'm away and won't be home for a week or so. I have the condensor and cold light heads. I'd be glad to take pictures and take measurements if you're still needing them then. PM me in a week or so to remind me.

I've got the colour head so can't really help.

IIRC the normal lamp is no longer sold. So you might want to rig something up to fit a lamp you can actually buy.

Thanks guys and to the people who sent me a PM. I've got a working lamp but now that Thorn has dropped the product what are people using as a substitute? I can get a 200W opal lamp from a local trade counter but I see that specific diameters are specified depending on focal length of lens (or condensor combi).

I already have a couple of Modular 70 enlargers but for my MF work I want to try a condensor and the L1000 is built like a brick sh**house.

The other alternative is to try and get a Pavelle colour head but they seem quite difficult to track down.

JohhnyWalker, the filter holder plugs into the side of the condensor housing. There is a little plate with two screws that is removed and the strangely named TAUFIL plugs in there.

Hi Lee !
I've managed to take picts of the cover of the lamphouse and the TAUFIL.
First, the lamp house top cover :
It is made from a 1mm thick steel plate painted machinery grey (Durst standard color) outside and flat black inside. The edge in contact with the lamphouse are felted to reduce light leaks. In the center of the cover there are 2 rectangular holes, closed from the inside with a spot welded metal plate having two ply to make a very small space between this plate and the lamphouse cover itself. I think this is to serve as a cooling air entry and reduce light leaks.
Dimensions are (all in centimeters, there are 2.54 cm in an inch)
largest (from rear to front) 14.7 cm wide 12.7 cm. the borders are made of one ply of this steel and measure 1 cm. There are two "bumps" one on the left and one on the right side to help the cover rest in place.
I hope the picts (from a really bad camphone) are useable

The Taufil is another story.
You have the picts on the previous post and this one.
The taufil is made like a drawer with an handle made from a sheet of steel spaced from the Taufil's body by two pieces of steel measuring 15 mm each.
The overall dimensions of the drawer part are 199 mm long and 123 mm high.
This drawer has two important features :
The main one is a rectangular hole facing the hole in front of the lamphouse measuring 88 mm height and 95 mm wide.
And the one you will have difficulties with is a spring loaded device to maintain the filters or heat absorbing glass in place. these are the left parts seen in the picts (this part moves and travel about 10 mm) the right parts are fixed.
On my picts there are a deeply thick frosted glass used to even the light output on the baseboard. I've removed the glass in the last picts.
For the lamp, I use either a Philips double enveloppe halogen bulb sold in Europe une the name HALOGENA which is a 95 mm diameter bulb white frosted and quite perfect in shape and color, without markings which is 150 W in power, has an E27 base which is Durst standard bulb socket. As it is an halogen, output power is quite high. Using the frosted glass output is really even provided the lamp is centered in the lamphouse. The other lamp I use is a 150 W enlarger bulb wich is, unfortunatelly, only 65 mm diameter but produce quite a good light with the frosted glass on the filter drauwer. I do not use, even if I own multigrade filters on oversize able to fit the TAUFIL. I use a Kodak under the lens filter holder screwed onto the red filter support and under the lens Ilford filter for contrast control on the paper.

Bear in mind that this enlarger was also fitted (I own one) with a CLS450 colorhead. This head fits using a TAUNODAP adapter (which holds the TAUNOBOX light mixing chamber, one for 35, one for 6x6 and one for 6x9 negs plus of course one for 4X5) This head is supplied either with the EST450 electronic stabilized transformer or the TRA450 which is a huge transformer and relay for a standard timer.
One can see one of this heads from time to time on Ebay. If you chase one, get the TAUNODAP with it, because this head has also fitted Agfa Vaioscop, Leitz Focomat IIC and early Laborator 1200 enlargers, of course with different adapters.

Georges and Ken, thanks for the photos and information. It looks as though I'll be blocking up the filter holder panel and using under the lens filters. Georges, what frosted glass are you using and should I put a layer of heat absorbing glass between the frosted glass and the lamp? Also with the tungsten lamp that you are using, is the holder commercially (I should say easily) available?

If I'm restoring this properly I would like to do it once and future proof the enlarger to some extent.

I've just looked up the Halogena and it looks to be a normal screw mount fitting and very reasonably priced. So it's just the frosted glass I need.

As for the lamp housing lid, there is a sheet metal fabricator next to where I work and they've done small jobs for me in the past, I just have to grease their palms with cash.
