My secret theory has always been that jnanian made one photograph back around 1978--perhaps a scene of three people smiling at the beach with other people a bit out of focus in the background, some cabanas, umbrellas, hot dog vendors and guys dragging coolers selling cold beer--and he's been printing miniscule fragments of this one negative ever since, so that the elements are unrecognizable.

Interesting theory, I always thought that he developed his film in coffee and drank his pyro in the morning!

Wow if you recognize old posts from other users being used you spend way to much time here.

So true...and I need to update my subscription!

What happened is that I clicked on "My Posts" and read a few new posts in a thread I posted on earlier. I then noticed one post that was unusually short, sweet and very intelligent-sounding. Also I noticed that the author, Mr. Phaghan from Viet Nam, had a pretty good grasp of English. I thought, "That is something I would say..."

:whistling:

Frankly, I don't care. It's not my wasted time.
If the finality is about me being scammed, well, then I'll have to be super cautious just as usual.

Which one... Vaghn or Phaghn???

Vaghn, Vaughn, Vaughan, Vaugn, Vaugh, and now Phaghn! I am use to seeing my name spelled all sorts of ways here!

Back in my freshman year at college I was on the varsity basketball team -- third string (even got the proverbial splinter in the ass from the bench that year!) My name up by the scoreboard read: Vern Hutchings ! Wrong on both accounts, but so it goes!!!

PS -- my first published image in a national/international magazine had both my first and last names mis-spelled. But fortunately, that did not stop someone from buying a print -- I just made sure he knew how to spell my name correctly on the check!

My name is not Ron, but misspellings on many military orders turned it into Ron, and then at the Cape the civilians took it up. So, it stuck. Besides, it is easier to remember (that is both good and bad   )!

Then, Jack Thirtle, one of the associate directors at EK introduced me at my first talk as "Ronland Murley" and I calmly said back "thank you Dr. Turtle" which brought the house down.

Just a little side humor on an otherwise potentially serious problem. Thanks to David!

do you mean by scammers or boiler plated by him?
i think sometimes he boilerplates whole essays and articles ..

Umut is the last person to be pointed at in this discussion. He typically shows the origins of his quotations, or at least he does not try to make them come over as his own. He even had same ideas he had better contemplated on for possible use in a protected context, instead he uttered them here.

Great story, PE. "Ronland Murley"??:laugh:

Actually all this time I had been under the assumption Ron was a normal shortening of Rowland. Now I know.

"Ronland" is a synonym for the countryside of Rochester NY, where PE can be found .....

John is not John, Ron is not Ron. Even Umut is on discussion.

Is there no consistency in life any more? I'll go to bed now, and hope I'll recognize Apug tomorrow.

hi Agx ..
it wasn't a slight on umut, at all, in the days of old he didn't always give sources he just cut and pasted whole articles, he cites references nowadays
( at one point i thought he was a 61 year old englishman  ... silly me ! ) and i thought that is what they were speaking of.
i always read his articles and his posts, they are more interesting than 90% of the posts here.
i hope he gets the funding to further some of his ideas.

I was actually referring more to Umut's more unusual/incomprehensible posts when I did my wondering.

From the Tom Lehrer song.

Plagiarize
Let no one else's work evade your eyes
Remember why the good Lord made your eyes
So don't shade your eyes
But plagiarize, plagiarize, plagiarize

A friend recently had his forum identity closely copied. The criminal who stole it posted a few times and then was given access to the for sale section. He or she proceeded to try and scam buyers by using the original account holders good reputation. No doubt there are other purposes, but this was one.
