Since Sean so kindly setup this region for us and a handy link too www.apug.org/ireland I thought it would be cool to introduce ourselves. So here goes;

I'm Fintan and living in Laois. I mostly do B+W and polaroids, and mostly use medium format. I do have a large format camera but still learning how to use it.

I like landscape, people, street, abstract and fashion photography. I have my own darkroom but still have a lot to learn :wink:

Great idea Fintan. Here's me;

I'm David, living in Bray, Co.Wicklow. I have been involved with photography on and off for about 25 years. Up to recently it has all been 35mm film/slide, have had my own darkroom for B+W, kit is in my attic but intend to get it setup again soon. Recently got a DLSR (Sony A100) and while I do like the immediacy of the digital, don't think I will ever let go of film. Would like to get into some Medium format. My kit is all Minolta (now Sony) and I enjoy shooting, Landscape, Seascape and old buildings. I only signed up to APUG in Feb, having "hung out" on a Miniolta User's group prior to this. It's great to see such a vibrant forum with some locals.

Hi from Trim.

Hi, my name is Peter and I live in Trim, County Meath.

I shoot mostly B&W 120 film and have a darkroom in my attic. I love photographing landscapes and old buildings, especially with Infrared film.

I have always enjoyed photography for as long as I can remember. I love packing all my gear and heading off for a day shooting but I equally enjoy all the film developing and darkroom printing experience.

Apug is my number 1 resource for traditional photography.

Hi everyone!

I'm Catherine - a Canadian (via Brooklyn)... now living near Cork. I love street photography, toy cameras, and crazy fine-art stuff (collages, multiple exposures, etc.). Took a class two years ago on alt processing. I'm not a pro - but I've started selling a bit on microstock - and will be interested to see where I can go in the next year or so with travel photography. At the moment I'm doing a project based on the story "the red shoes" so if you know any hairy and horrible guys who might like to model for me, please let me know!

I should confess I'm a bit of a "hybrid" - lately I shoot digital but to redeem myself you should know that I make large negatives for contact printing in the regular darkroom.

There is nothing I love more in this world than being in the darkroom.

Me..

Somehow I feel this should start...
My name is Sheila.. and I'm a Photoholic...

But .. I'll stick with..

Hi I'm Sheila (Síle ás Gaelige ), I live in County Wicklow. Since I was 15 I've been into 35mm photography, and in the past few years... D*g*t*l..

Last year someone gently placed a Rollei TLR in my hands and my life hasn't been the same since.. I finally adopted a Minolta Autocord in September, and we've spent some wonderful months getting to know one another intimately.. But we still have so much to learn..

At the moment I'm trying to figure out (with the help of apug and some friends) how to adapt my Daylab to develop b & w 35mm.. it's been so long since I processed and developed my own film, I'm hoping both friends and apug will help in the journey.

My favourite thing to photograph is doors, doorways, old buildings and the beach.. of which thankfully there is an abundance of in Ireland.

Also David and I have known each other for a few years, only realising in the past year that we share a passion for photography. What he doesn't realise, is that I'm only holding out for that enlarger in the attic.. so shh.. don't tell him..

Not Irish proper, but I lived in Dublin for two years and left my heart somewhere on Skellig Michael, so something keeps pulling me back. Scots-Irish to the core, and Celtic in heart and soul, I'm American born and bred but love Ireland and plan to return again and again. So, since Peter called me an "honorary Irishman" in one of his posts, I would like to be considered a "corresponding member" of your group. :smile:

Diplomat by profession, but photographer by avocation, I do documentary work. I'm now deep into a project on Celtic monasticism (in the wake of my book on Egyptian monasticism) and hope to get that published in the next year or two. Strictly black-and-white, I gave up color years ago and only use digital to snapshoot my holidays. Otherwise, it's 4x5 large format and a Leica with shift lenses for backpacking.

Good luck with your Irish APUG group and I hope it keeps growing!

All the best from Baghdad . . . .

It's a pleasure to have you with us Michael.
Your work sounds absolutely fascinating and I have to agree the Skelligs are as beautiful as they are intriguing, as are almost all Monastic sites that I'm lucky enough to have been to in Ireland..

Síle, I've come across an old MPP Enlarger with a 50mm and 75mm lens, would you be interested in it? Free of course.

Great, I'll take it along to Cashel if you are coming. I also have tank and reels and a couple of small trays from the same darkroom clearout. All yours if you want and of course free.

introduction

Hi All,

My name's Hugh and I live in Dublin. Really happy to have found this forum (saw the poster in the Gallery Of Photography today ... first time in the darkroom in about a year). I've been doing b&W, mostly medium format, photography for a few years now on and off. Started by doing an Introduction To Photography course with all intentions of buying a fancy digital camera, was a bit upset to find out the course was all about this weird darkroom carry-on, but was then hooked within about a week.

I have a bunch of MF cameras now but have recently come to the conclusion that the Bronica RF645 I have is one of only two possessions I would save from my house if it was burning down. It's the greatest thing ever.

I like to shoot street scenes, rusty old ships and buildings, mostly details. I really like travel photography and most of my pics are from trips abroad. Not doing as much of that these days so I suppose I'll have to find more things in Dublin/Ireland to shoot ...

Anyway, glad I found this place .....
