Hi I have a Contax 167mt and wondered if it is ok to use with IR film. Does it have an IR frame counter that would fog IR film? Many thanks.

Have a look at Ilford SFX and the deep red filter to go with it. Very easy to use and can be developed using conventional B&W chemicals. Using this stuff means that IR frame counters (if present) wouldn't make much difference as unless you add the filter it behaves like conventional B&W film.

Only snag is the long exposure times - anything from four seconds to a minute! I find metering without the filter, then adding the filter, knocking seven stops off the shutter speed and using a cable release works well.

I have some Agfa 400s and a R72 filter which should be ok then?

Sounds like it should work. If it didn't fog Kodak HIE, then it should be OK. Guess you'll need to shoot it and see what happens.

I think an SLR is the wrong camera for shooting infrared when using one of the very deep red filters because you can't see enough to focus or compose your shot.

Thanks for the replies, as you say Mike I need to get out and give it a go.

I think that you'll enjoy this film. I've shot a fair amount of it, and I like it a lot with the deep red filter. I've been shooting this film with a rangefinder because of trying to see through the filter. I'm using a B+W filter that is the equivalent of the R72.

Sorry about this large shot. This is with a 21mm Biogon on a Contax IIa.
