I really enjoyed the soundtrack
Wouldn't buy one though, until they publish a "How to..." book. Something along the lines of "The Phone System," later to be followed by "Beyond the Phone System." (This is where you learn to make high quality contact prints with an iPad) !

There really is nothing about this that infringes on APUG territory.

As long as the discussion doesn't wander over how to make the iPhone "photos" in the first place.

I know of at least a couple of people who use a film writer to create negatives from digital files they already have. I don't think discussing how to print from those negatives is outside APUG at all.

I wouldn't recommend it as a standard workflow. But it certainly is a way to bring into the analogue realm those shots taken where only digital was available.

I realize this product is for people that don't have enlargers, etc, already but, what is the difference between this and sticking your iphone in your enlarger? The iPhone 6 has a pretty high res screen. Has anyone ever tried it?

Had a discussion about this shortly after viewing the linked clip, it is certainly doable, but would require an enlarger with a big enough negative carrier space, plus you would probably require something to time the exposure, maybe a dark slide blind, as is the norm in some large enlargers where the light is on all the time.

Mick.

My workshop is not set up for printing right now so I cannot try it But I looked and my iPhone 6 slides in the enlarger just fine with enough room for a "carrier" if it would be required. (You'd have to make that yourself) The projected image is not quite as bright as the regular lamp with a negative, but it ought to be workable.

What about discussions about which aspects in the digital process make the best negatives and why? And if not, why not? After all it's all about making the best negative and then the final analog product, yes?

APUG has been there (digital negatives), and it caused serious, nearly derailing problems.

So Sean, with the help of the moderators and a few others, came to the decision to prohibit those discussions.

The group area for those who want to discuss scanning, and hybridphoto (now DPUG) are attempts outside of the main APUG forums to meet other needs.

Thanks Matt. I've been a member here since 2003 though admittedly had a pretty long hiatus for a while only coming back in high activity again the last few years so I must have missed that.

yes this is true, and the grey area was a nightmare at times,
but the problem that i see is that dpug / hybrid photo gets so little traffic, that it is missed, and even though
questions and concerns might be put there, it its like waiting for the continental drift to be noticed and answered. granted it isn't full of riff raff
or fluff or nonsense ( it has a consistant knowledgable base of people who know their stuff ).
i hope with the upgrade there is better integration between apug and dpug, maybe a switch someone can turn on and off so it magically appears
and it is integrated both as a stand alone site, and a part of this space ...

Uh......for one thing the light isn't going to pass through your iPhone.

Ken - can you name the people who play this whack a mole game with the rest?.. I for one would love to see APUG move into current state of art printmaking. I am pretty sure I am one of your agitators.
I can tell you I get no pleasure poking this stick in Sean's eye every chance I can get , as I believe its a huge topic of interest to printers in many alt and silver darkrooms.

I find no game in this, I want to see changes as a longtime member here on APUG .. How many threads can we continue to suffer about unwanted flow marks in developed film where the poster starts to blame Ilford for making bad film??

Not about iPhones really. Everybody (almost) has one. Or its equivalent. So no one is against them.

And not really about you, Art. You've been around here off-and-on since like a couple of hours after Genesis. I've enjoyed your posts for years. At least the years you've been active.

What it's about is a small number of members who know exactly what the charter, and by extension its originator, says about the focus of this site. And knowing this, they then try to play Whack-A-Mole with the membership and the moderators by seeing just how far they can push the digital technology envelope. Just how close they can come without actually getting punished. It has nothing to do with photography itself, regardless of the backend technology behind it.

Injecting unwanted digital discussions into APUG is just a big game to them, at everyone else's expense. They intentionally work to irritate, then when called on it they back off claiming that all of the upset members are treating them meanly and aren't allowing them to just have fun. It's a poking-sticks-in-eyes problem. Not an iPhone problem.

Ken

Whats the benefit? You can print right from you phone already. You can not make a analog print from a digital source & have the benefit of having a analog negative. Just a few of the major benefits is longevity, along with quality, which one would see as the print gets larger.

Not So

LVT negatives have been around since early 90's Salgado uses this method today to make silver negatives from his digital files and puts them in an enlarger.
We make enlarged silver negatives up to 28 inches by 10 ft if ever needed which then can be contact printed.

Both of these methods make silver negatives and then make silver prints.
