It appears that you only see what you expect to see. That is unfortunate for you.

I'd love to be proven wrong and it's the only reason why I stay on here as long as I have.
Because I love to learn and be proven wrong.
A lot of people on here gave me the opposite vibe... They think they know everything and will only accept communication if it means they will convince others that their way is the right way and the only way...

I find this site pretty welcoming to anyone- old, young, women, men, gay, straight, trans, poc, etc.

Well, surely you must have been here longer than I have. The dismissive comment earlier "what's next - sequins on a camera" could have offended people who don't share a straight white male aesthetic. Sequins are awesome and so is fake fur.

As a reference to others who may be new to this forum the above statement is complete bollocks from several perspectives. Bringing ethnicity into this discussion is frankly odd as well...

Hopefully I'll be proven wrong if I can stand the conservatism long enough.
I do appreciate the use of "bollocks" in your sentence, I wish more people'd use it.
I've just been around so many old photogs that some behaviours and patterns become instantly recognizable...

When I don't like a bar I leave. I don't stay and complain about how much I hate it, and the people in it.

Well, that's just like, your opinion, man. I think the comment that person was that we're not here to agree on everything?... Or that discussions can become heated?... Your "bar" sounds like a tea salon more than a real dive joint

Different groups than the fetishists I've met and who skewed my perception of photography for a while. They do exists... out in the open!
Maybe you need to spend more time with image makers than people fishing for "likes and reputations".

Of course we don't agree on everything. Your problem seems to be with when we don't agree with you.

In my experience the most gear fixated people I've come across have been via the various YouTube channels, not the "real-world". Additionally I'm very much of the view that good photographs can be made with a range of gear, i.e if someone produces great work with a Holga pinhole camera that doesn't invalidate for example Hasselblad / Linhof / Mamiya as options for other approaches.

Age is a number I'm sure you can find conservatives under 30 on here...
True.

And I just had to restart the electric tea kettle for the fourth time -- let's see if I can remember to pour water for a cuppa this time!

Finally a good looking website! (Colophon).
Which one of these products is the "urethane" you mentioned?
you get the urethane in a can here or at your local hardware store: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Minwax-32-...2a3bb84915bd11a98c14d87141be1e6c&gclsrc=3p.ds
you need to get a brush to apply it, you can mix it with things, and the paper I was talking about is any old paper, like macramé . >>. some folks make houses out of paper too

Cameras have *always* been a fashion accessory
I don't really agree with that, sure to some but not always .. its a FA mainly by people who think more about their gear than making photographs with it, you know like someone who would carry a book around with them to make it seem like they read it when they had no clue. not sure what the breakdown is but there's always been lots of posers, and a lot of people who use their cameras as light traps. then there is one of my heroes

didn't have much bling..

It's possible to be humorous or even disparaging without being directly insulting. Choose your words carefully, and let the reader connect the dots.
