I'm Lorie. I'm from Manila. Photography has been more than a hobby to me. I've been interested in it for so many years now. I've taken some photography classes back in college (I majored in fine arts & advertising). After college I took some workshops conducted by the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation. Recently though, I haven't got time to pursue photography because of work but I still take pictures from time to time. Sometimes I do pick up the camera and take some product shots due to the nature of my work. I'm a graphic designer/advertising artist. I wish I can take more classes and workshops if I have time. I definitley want to learn more about analog photography. I don't think I'll ever fully make the switch to digital photography. It's just not the same.

Greetings from the Hawkeye State, home of pork, corn, and Tom Arnold. My name is Steve Young, and I come from the small town of Bondurant, about 15 minutes from Des Moines. My obligatory UK connection is that the man I learned photography from, my late Grampa Lewis, is of Welsh decent. I mostly take pictures of trains, but I will shoot anything I find interesting. My baby is a Nikon N2000 with a 50mm lens, though I just purchased an 80-200 zoom lens to use. Going digital for me means asking Drug Town to scan my pics onto CD. I'm not ready to give up the film anytime soon. The one thing I am starting to look into more is night photography, specifically catching headlight illumination of the surroundings. Any help in that department would be helpful.

I am living in Idaho with more mountains than I can count. As a technical troubleshooter I deal with scanners, cameras printers and computers for HP. After a day of increased technical awareness I simply want some low tech in my life. Snap shooting for the last 30 years I have probably wasted more film than most pros. My cameras include Minolta 35, Rolliflex-T, a russian 4X5 that uses glass plates, and will include a 8 X 10 as soon as I build it!!

I hope to make friends from the UK, right now I troubleshoot issues for folks from the UK who have moved to Florida. (Hope that counts)

Currently I am investigating the possibility of using photo paper as a negative or a direct imaging medium. Any thoughts on this?

The plan for an 8X 10 field is to build the complete instrument my self, using all the skills I have developed thus far. I do custom leather work as my other hobby. I hope this helps explain. Cheers y'all.

In case it's a new mandatory requirement for APUG membership  , I've been to London twice and was in the APUG chat room once, talking to Les...

Actually the best way to do that is to post a message inviting folks to join in the chat room. Theres a forum for that I think. Then just log in and wait to see who shows up.

Greetins all,

After hanging about about for a few days I actually looked far enough down on the forum to find *this*

Me, me, me.

Based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Spent the first couple years of my life sniffing dev, stop and fixer (my folks ran a small studio at home in Chicago)

As a kid used to use my parents Rollie and was eventually given the old exacta as my own... Lost all that in a fire as a teen and didn't take a photo again for 20 years.. Eventually bought a digital and after a couple years of that went looking for more. Now I have a rollie again, and an old Burke and James 4x5. A confused looking Darkroom and a mess of 35mm and other strange stuff.

In one way or another my work has been photo based the last 3 years. Now I'm moving a little more towards the fine art side and am working on my first couple of exhibitions..

Besides traditional b&w I print with Cyanotypes, vandyke and a teeny bit with gum (ain't that good with gum yet)

Well that's it for now.

It's been nice reading the forums and trading a few messages with a few of you already.

Cheers,
Ian

I've been a member for awhile but mostly as a lurker. So...

I've worked in the Information Technology field in computer support for the last 8 years so I'm certainly no stranger to computers and digital imaging but I've never been interested in digital photography. For me, its always been about traditional processes.

I started taking my first pictures in the early 1970's, soon after high school. I spent about 2 years with 35mm, then sold my 35mm cameras because I wasn't getting the quality I wanted and bought a 4x5. After using a Zone VI 4x5 for over 20 years, I finally made the jump to 8x10 this month (December). It not the latest and greatest (an Ansco 8x10 and Turner Reich 12/19/25) but it will get me started.

Although I may enlarge older 4x5 negatives, I've decided to work only with contact prints for new work. I'm currently using pyrocat, amidol and Azo. Its not a question of a 'magic bullit'. It about being drawn to older/traditional processes and not wanting to accept anything less than what I consider the best material for me at the moment. (90 - 95% of my photographs are taken in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the surrounding Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina.

Jasper is about 20 minutes from Chattanooga. I was born in Chattanooga but raised in Nashville so I know the area of the country that you are referring too.

You're not too far from the Atlanta area, I used to go out to your neck of the woods (Charlie Smiths property in Fiery Gizzard Cove) to go caving quite a bit. I still like visiting to take pictures. Theres a few other APUG folks here in the Atlanta area, perhaps one day we can have a get together for pictures, food, and socializing somewhere scenic we all like to go to.

Well, as the newest member it is probably polite to introduce myself. My name is Kostas Kranis and I live in Athens, Greece. I work as a telecomms engineer in a multinational, and spent most of my spare time with a camera in my hands.

I started photography 4 years ago, with a digital camera, but I soon realised that what I really liked was the classic B/W photography. So, I got myself a Nikon F-65 (N-65 for the States) and now I shoot with my FM or FM2n. I have the Nikkors 50mm F/1.8, 28-100mm G (when I got on vacation) and a Sigma 20mm F/1.8. In the last month or so, I try to get the wide angle out of my camera, but I cannot do it, as it keeps popping back...

I develop my B/W film at home in my dark(bath)room. When I want to post something on the net, I use a Minolta DualScan III film scanner, but just yesterday I received my Durst 670VC enlarger, so my darkroom (basement) is up and running now.

I like street photography most, but people nowadays become a bit frustrated. And I really do not like these ultra zooms...

An amateur by all means, but still I have got one or two pics that I really like. If you are interested, drop by:

and leave a comment or two...
