My home town Perpignan (between Montpellier and Barcelona) is hosting every year a great/free festival of photojournalism late August/early September. Exhibitions are held during the day in old buildings/monuments, some of which are so big you'll need a full day to see all the pictures. In addition to the day exhibitions, free outdoor evenings with projections on 3 screens and music run every evening for a week along with awards nominations to well-deserving photographers.
This event is a great opportunity to see high quality photographs and learn a bit more about what's going on in our world today.
Perpignan and the surroundings is a great place, wine making country at the border of the Cathar country. The coastal towns of Collioure and Banyuls are worth a visit, but the Corbieres also have a special place in my heart.
