Interesting video on how date backs work

A pretty interesting video breaking down a point and shoot to show how the date imprinting system works. I don't buy his idea that the film base tints the date red, it's probably due to the red layer being exposed first when exposing through the back of the film (i.e. redscale effect).

There's a lot of little details that go into a camera that I don't ever give much thought about. Anyway, I thought someone else might also find this interesting:

You are right, as the base is colourless.

The "Redscale" effect is due to both, the red layer being more sensitive and the orange coloured masking dyes.
