I wasn't sure where to post this in the gallery so I'm posting it here since I've had nice chats with members on this particular forum. (And helpful advice)
I don't have a date but of course with those Graflex cameras it's likely in the 1950s. I'm assuming my father took the picture since the negative is in his collection and there was a Weinstein's store in San Francisco, where we lived our whole lives. There's just something really fun about this image

I especially like the shirt of the guy on the right.

I wonder what they were taking pictures of? Usually, when you see something like this, it's a camera club taking pictures of a naked or nearly-naked girl. Seems unlikely in the setting, though.

I'll bet the guy in the shirt was one of the models for a Summer or Beach promotion shoot. The shirts in front of him look similar and a lot of those big department stores would have themed photo sessions for major city newspapers.

Free advertisement and pictures to fill the papers...

Well - probably not in the Ethics and Philosophy sub-forum where it was - but there is no problem moving it to this "Antiques, Collecting and Photographic History" sub-forum - which I've done.
The Standard Gallery would also work, but the fora are better for discussions.

People look at "new posts", which shows anything new in any of the parts of the forum people are signed up to see.
Yup; that’s how I got here. I’d like to see more from this collection….

Exactly.
Many or most people organize their time on Photrio by using the "New Posts" function to see the threads that have been active since they last visited.
Or they use the somewhat clunky Search function.
And/or they mark a particular sub-forum as a "watched" sub-forum to follow.

Wow, blast from the past.
Weinsteins, as far as i know. was a local San Francisco thing.
I remember my parents talking about it with fondness.
From what i was told they were a cheaper version of The Emporium and Macys.

Great photo.!
Is that the only neg of the store you have.?
Be interesting to know why he snapped it 🙂

Well, you all make my heart sing. Ok, then, New Posts it is.
CMoore, I have thousands of my dad's negatives (and prints); most are in envelopes with dates and locations. This one has neither. He's long gone so we'll never know why he took it unless I come across an empty envelope that sounds like the description of it.

Tel, I'm in the process of scanning about a hundred (to start) old SF photos. I really want to share more and I will soon as I'm trying to figure out the best way.

I will keep my fingers crossed. 🙂
Look forward to seeing more of these.
Thank You

This picture is so precious! I loved zooming into the little details: hairstyles, clothing, the products in the shelves and the ladies unpacking another shirt.
Thank you for sharing!

That's nice! Do you have a collection of them? Whatever you got, upload to the Internet Archive in decent res.

I have a number of really fun old photos I'd like to share with members here. I'm really unsure where the best place to post them would be for the fun comments they get. Can you or someone help me out? The gallery? Which one? This forum? Another forum? It's not all that clear to me....

If you post to the gallery, you probably won't get a massive amount of discussion. It's just how the gallery is. However, if you make thread after thread of photo posts, the discussion will dry up, also. It might be an idea to have a single thread where you post new photos. See the Eugene Atget Appreciation thread as an example of how conversation can be continuous about one person's photos.

The photographer on the far right, has a dark slide in his jacket pocket, as does the photographer standing on the bench top.

Plus, there appears to be something photographic wise sitting on the top of the shelf, sort of looks like a Box Brownie with a flash, but then again it could be some kind of security device?
