Interest in emulsion making

Based on response, here is the interest in emulsion type.

1. 8 out of 10 prefer learning about Azo.

2. 10 out of 10 want more film emulsion information

3. 2 out of 10 want enlarger speed graded emulsion making.

Maybe this should be a poll, but this is what I'm getting so far.

Any input?

Probably because commercial products fitting this market are still readily available. One or two more plant closures (gee, that's something new which has never happend before [sarcasm alert] ), and it all could look VERY different.

Anyways, I would be interested in all three emulsion types (it never hurts to know the broader spectrum). Now what we really need is "PE's Definite Guide to Emulsion Making" (preferably in hardcover and autographed, but an e-book would probably do too ).

As I don't think I will ever have the chance to do a USA based emulsion workshop, I too will have to await any kind of book. Be that hard copy, or electronic.

I myself am very interested in numbers 2 & 3.

I too would buy a book, were one available, especially if it contained an element of science for the educated layperson in addition to recipies and how-to information.

All of the choices are of interest even if I my primary interest is one of the items. I would fine number 1 of primary interest but since this kind of knowledge is very scarce and rarely seen by the public I think any information is gold.

I'm working on that #2 Don. Neither of us liked that ammonia odor in the current formula, but I've had 5 failures out of 5 with the new method. Oh well.

My highest interest is in film emulsion (2), but I do have an interest in the other areas as well.

In my case I am interested in 2, 1, and 3, in that order.

I am at the moment interested in seeing a film emulsion, which isn't too complicated, keeps well (in the best case up to 5-6 months) and gives repeatable results, which I am able to coat on glass.

Easy and repeatable is key for me - I can live with coating say, 10-12 plates and use them within one or two days time. Speed is not a big problem, I am happy with something like iso 6-12. The long term aim is to be able to be self sufficient enough to make salt/albumen prints from my own glass plates.

#2 should not be a problem as long as film is made & someone is willing to cut it to my formats.
#3 should also continue since many digital users want to imitate the analog look.
#1 is my chief concern. Hand coating paper for contact printing, whether by brush, rod or another device, is very appealing.

Number 2, I can contact print several processes if nobody makes paper anymore. Gotta have film or plates to photograph....EC

We are pretty much evenly divided here. Ok, well, this sets no new priorities for me except what I already know. Azo is on a lot of peoples minds.
