Want to Buy Infrared Type Films

Does anyone have Black & White Infrared Films they would like to sell? I'm looking for 35mm, 120 or 4x5 film for a massive project trying every Infrared film available.

-Kodak High Speed Infrared HIE
-Konica 750
-Efke IR820 Aura
-Rollei Infrared 400
-Ilford SFX 200 (Extended Red Sensitivity)
-Kodak EIR (Color)

*If you have any advice (ASA rating, filter stop compensation for Red 25A or Hoya R72 Filter, infrared focus, camera aperture or shutter speed setting.) I would be greatly appreciated

To the best of my knowledge Efke IR820 Aura (and non-aura), Rollei IR 400, and without any doubt Ilford SFX 200 are still in production and can be bought fresh.

The other films mentioned will be harder to get, that's for sure.

You might find occasionally find some of the obsolete films (Kodak and Konica) on EbeegeeBay - or someone here might have some in storage (I have a few Konica in the fridge) - but they are now so long out of production that they will no longer be within spec. Fog levels will be higher, speed lower, they may even be useless, depending on how well they've been stored. The films were quite expensive when new and had a short shelf life. If someone has a supply of 'frozen from fresh' stock - they are unlikely to part with them for a few cents.

Efke IR 820 Aura

Hello,
I'm using Efke IR 820 Aura 135 and 120. You can see some examples here:

The filter used is Heliopan 780, at f 11 the exposure time is from 1 to 5 seconds.
Development: XTOL 1+1 14 min
Be careful, the emulsion of Efke is sometimes really bad (pinholes!).

I have some EIR and HIE in 35mm and Aerochrome (which you didn't mention) in 120.... but it'd cost ya!

Just beware that outdated IR films of any brand will probably be considerably worse than comparable non-IR B&W or color films. This is due to the heat sensitivity of these films. If they were frozen, they will be much better than if kept at room temperature, but probably still not too good.

I am aware of the current films available at Freestyle, but these do not have the spectrum sensitivity to give the halo / wood / blooming effects that discontinued films offer. This is why I am seeking discontinued film.

Why would that be when frozen HIE was still used for way longer time periods and had deeper IR sensitivity?

I've got quite a bit of frozen Efke IR I bought when the end was announced. I haven't processed any of it yet, in fact (long story of being way more preoccupied than I planned) but I'll let you know.

Well I passed on some cheap 135 HIE earlier this spring. But the Kodak and EFKE films were not the same.
Id just do a test strip rather than waste a whole sheet.
It still may be better than current materials but may be expensive.

I was heart broken when EFKE stopped.

I have the names if two people I've bought Efke IR820 from in the past at home. I'll send you a PM tonight with the contact info if you want. It's just the regular IR820 but I've been able to get some very nice effects. Also I purchased some MACO IR820 in 4x5 from ebay and was very happy with it.

I processed an EFKE IR820 roll yesterday. Bought it in 2012, fridge stored most of the time. Can't say yet if the shots are any good, but there certainly were negatives also where I used the IR filter.

I am getting great results from my IR820, no fog issues, beautiful film, I actually like it more than HIE but then I shoot it in 120 and 4x5 anyway.

You can get some pretty good wood effects with the Rollei IR400s. I'm going to try to figure out how to get the halo/blooming effect in the spring when we get green leaves again. See (there was a url link here which no longer exists) or (there was a url link here which no longer exists) for examples. These are sc*ns of negatives and not wet prints, unfortunately.

A word of warning for shooting Rollei IR400 in 4x5. The film is *extremely* thin based, a real pain to load and not hard to accidentally load two sheets.

Also, I question the quality control, I just loaded a dozen sheets and ended up with one in the trash. Reason being is that the box I was loading from was cut too wide and would not fit in either my Chamonix or Toyo holders as the tolerances are exact. I barely fit them in some Riteway holders.

It's a nice film for sure but in 4x5 it is a royal pain....

Are you looking for the NON-Aura version of Efke IR820 also? I am reluctantly considering selling most of my remaining stash of this film (about 40 rolls of 120) since I am not shooting much of it anymore. All have been frozen since purchase and come from one of two batches - either 2012-4 (#101002) or 2013-3 (#111007). I can provide my EI ratings too if you're interested, based on at least 3 different filters I have used.
