In a moment of boredom I saw an old Ektar enlarging lens on the auction site. Nobody bid for it so I basically got it for the postage cost.

The lens is marked Kodak Color Printing Ektar 70mm 4.5. There's a couple of things that maybe someone can help me with.

1 - It appears to have a 40mm mount and the thread is quite deep. e.g. its a straight barrel with no stop.

2 - It doesn't have an iris but rather the front element unscrews and different circles are placed in the barrel and help by a retaining clip. The one that's with it looks like approximately an F8. The rear element also unscrews and is marked "Short conj."

I held it under my enlarger and the image was tack sharp with excellent contrast and very easy to focus. With this in mind I'm definitely going to use it.

Is it a lens off a machine printer maybe and is there somewhere in the UK that could machine me a lens panel for a Durst?

These appear to have been from some kind of processing machine. I have one that is for making 5X7 prints from 35mm. It's an amazingly good lens. They don't have adjustable stops, just a replaceable disc stop. Not much good for anything unless you like to experiment with oddball suff, like I do.

That's the thing, it looks extremely sharp. I'll just go to a local machine shop and see if they can make up a mount for me.
