I just received a Schneider 47mm f5.6 Digitar. it appears to be about the same as a Super-Angulon.
The schneider website only lists and APO-Digitar.
Does anyone know if this is the same lens? Is it the same as a 47mm f5.6 Super-Angulon XL or is it just the standard Super Angulon?

Thanks!

Darin, your question piqued my curiosity so I took a look at the cross-sections Schneider has posted for f/5.6 SA, f/5.6 SAXL, and f/5.6 Digitar [the front page says Apo Digitar, the data sheet says just Digitar].

They're all in the same family, 8 elements in 4 groups, big meniscus at each end and a cemented triplet in the middle. If the cross-sections can be trusted, they all differ in details of spacing, relative sizes of some of the glasses, and curvatures. I don't think it is safe to think of the Digitar as an SAXL or as a jes' plain f/5.6 SA.

That said, Schneider says the 47 Digitar covers 60 mm, the 47 SAXL 166 mm, and the 47 SA 123 mm. The SAXL isn't an SA. The Digitar seems (eyeball comparison of the charts) to have better MTF over its coverage than the SAXL over the Digitar's coverage.

What do you intend to do with yours?

I don't think there is a film format that matches the coverage of that lens, except 4x4cm (127) or a mini 35mm view camera with room for movements.

I own a 47mm Apo-Digitar which covers a 6x7cm digital back. Never tried shooting film with it.

Just an update on this lens. I mounted this on my 4x5. Preliminary results it look like the lens doesnt quite cover 4x5. Has a hard vignette about 1 cm away from the corner.
It looks sharp out in the edges, but is probably soft in edges.
But I really need to to put a sheet of film behind it to find out for sure.
