there are a some options for inexpensive large format lenses
if you can find a "tominion 127mm 4.7 " lens you might be happy with it.
they usually come in a copal press shutter. i've had one for years and it has no trouble
covering a 4x5 sheet of film. it has sharpness if you like that, 4.7 isn't too fast or too slow
and typically these lenses aren't too expensive ... and you can use the shutter
for a g-claron lens if you end up getting one at somepoint down the road.
optar and ilex lenses and bausch and lomb, and wollensak, are a few more brands to think about.
i don't know what the URL is but there is a book/publication about the history of
the photography industry in rochester ny, in there you will find the who's who of lenses to look for
on eBay. also go to cameraeccentric.com and look in the catalogs found in the "information" tab
you will find armloads of catalogs to help you figure out what's what.
often times there are "unloved" lenses that are bargains/steals because at the moment people are too tuned
into sharpness or softness or junque or whatever ...
also, don't discount old folders. often times the larger ones have shuttered lenses that can be removed
from the camera and suck on a new camera. some roll films ( like 122 ) were pretty big ( popular ) and big ( size )
and the lenses were pretty good.
and who knows maybe in a few years the lens you harvested off a 12$ junk camera will be worth hundreds of dollars
