Hi

Wonder if anyone could help. I have just purchased a Zorki 6 with Industar 50 lens, the manual says the attachment thread is 36mm but I have searched eBay for a lens cap and found nothing. Any info where I might buy one, I am in UK.
Any help would be appreciated.

If the 37mm snap-on cap should not fit, one might grind-off the ring of the cap a bit.

Otherwise Heliopan offers push-on caps with diameters in 1mm steps.

Cheers, that's a great bit of info, I wondered why there were so many 37mm and no 36mm.

Sometimes bottle tops are good stop-gap lens caps, Tesco milk bottle tops are about that size also they come in three colours !

If you can get to a camera fair there's always boxes full of different sized lens caps.

Will take a look at press but we don't have many camera fairs.

Thanks - hes says heading off to the fridge lol.

I have your version of lens, the external diameter is 36 mm and internal is 32.5.
Cheers.

personally have never screw lens cap for any Russian lenses. They are always the push on plastic type. Ian's suggestion is a good one. I have used plastic pill bottle caps in the past.

Another option with push-on lens caps if they are loose is to put some self adhesive felt inside to tighten it up. Some of the early metal push-on lens caps had felt in them. I have done this with some cheap plastic lens caps from eBay. I think they shipped from China. Just measure the diameter you need, you can always get a range of sizes for how cheap they are. In the US the self adhesive felt can be found in hardware stores.

At least in theory velvet could work beter than felt. (Actually I only know original caps with velvet, not felt.)

I've used the snap-on tops of pill boxes if I happened to have some that fit or could be made to fit. Looks bad, works well.

You're probably right about the original caps using velvet but I have made it work with the felt.

If you paint them with automotive touch up spray paint (black or silver), they can look quite good, almost as nice as the original lens cap.

Aren't pill box caps caps from PA/PP? How would you spray paint them?

Hmm... I didn't have a problem spray painting my plastic caps. After two years, the paint hasn't rubbed or flaked off yet.

Hi All

Thanks very much for all the hints and tips. Found the perfect solution. Deodorant spray can top. Just have to trim about half an inch off (there is a bit of a lip inside which won't go over the lens). Also, just right size to tape sunny 16 rule print out round the rim just in case forget light meter. Just need to get a black cap so no painting.
