Inconsistent Patches & Large Filter Blemishes! How bad on Image Quality?
Please see the attached photos.
Hello every body.
Noticed the patches and blemishes after cleaning a new arrived filter.
Resistant to cleaning.
It’s not on the filter glass surface.
More noticeable on back light.
It involves all the dark area.
Sure it involves the clear area but can not be seen.
Checked my other filters, crystal clear and clean hopefully.
How much it can decrease image sharpness?

I suspect this filter will cause, at a minimum, flare and image softness of an objectionable amount.

Looks like microscopic fungi either eating away at a layer of adhesive or having already eaten coating off the surface of the filter.

Of course, it might be useful as a "pro-mist" type filter for portraits, but testing would be in order.

I would toss it. Just my opinion...

As a general rule, isolated occlusions (scratches, fungus splotches) have a minimal effect on image quality. On the other hand, widespread infestations and haze have major deleterious effects on image quality.
