In your opinion, what are the best modern 35mm film SLRs ever built?

With film, i like the slow approach much more, no auto exposure, auto rewind, auto anything...Minox GT-E or just a Contax T and zone focusing is all what's being needed.

Now I only shoot with Rolleiflex so I agree completely.

It's not butt-ugly, but it ain't cute, with that kind of viewfinder. The F2 Titan into contrast, into black, is into mint condition like a M series film Leica, very, uber expensive....and really cute. Would love to own one, but prices are even worlds higher, than my S2b Contax...that says something.

This Pentax is truly a beautiful camera.

Then again, my Minolta A-7 (and A-9), though admittedly not as pretty, is no slouch either. (It does at least have brains!)

I'm certain I'm forgetting many others, but the Nikon F2, F3, F4, Olympus OM-1, OM-2, OM-3, OM-4 are also up there in the beauty contest.

Nothing like using white plastic for the lens hood. 😆

Don't you know...functionality is not as important as appearance. You don't think we actually use these cameras do you? That is why we have a phone in our pocket.

This is how the scene looked from my LX - aperture priority autoexposure on Kodak Portra 800 that took about 15 minutes.

I do carry a phone just to show what the LX can do that it can't . . . 😉

Thanks Les. That was a little tongue in cheek!

I love the LX EXACTLY because of your picture. Of course the Pentax lenses that I can use with that camera doesn't hurt.

Sadly. There is only one modern 35mm SLR. The Nikon F6. Though I hear tell Pentax has something in the works.

You don't consider the EOS 1V or Elan 7N to be modern?

7N is a great camera. Top notch build quality. The lack of spot meter makes me reach for my minolta A5

The Nikon F6 is not only still supported, it’s still in production. The only 35mm SLR you can still purchase new. Those canons have long been discontinued.

I wish you were right; the production ended in 2020.

Well shit. At least Leica still makes 35mm rangefinders. And supposedly there’s going to be a new Pentax coming out this year.
