In praise of the Nikon F90x

This is a camera body that KEH sent me after failing to send me a good body of another model.

I had previously owned the F801s, so I am not too terribly surprised with what I am about to tell you.

Technically, this is the best film SLR that I have yet to own, as well as the most faithful and reliable so far.

And although I did prefer the ergonomics of my Contax 139Q, the metering accuracy and flexibility of my 90 makes it preferable.

Speaking of the meter, along with its shutter speed range, it offers everything I could need in every conceivable situation.

Last, but not least, this camera does not feel like a cheap plastic toy. It really doesn't feel like you are holding a plastic clad body at all.

It is very solid and reassuring. Anyone else love theirs?

I passed one up years ago before I had much experience. I did get an N80 (F80) this past year, it's a dumbed down F90 but it's a joy to use.

Count me as a fan of this camera. It was the first camera I bought brand-new in my first newspaper job years & years ago...I probably put tens of thousands of rolls of film (maybe many tens of thousands, actually) through it over the years, and not exactly babying it, either.
Not once did it give me a problem. Excellent metering, too. I do think this is one of the best 'bang for your buck' used cameras out today for film photographers.

For most work the Air Force and I think the Army used the N90 rather than the more expensive F5, AP, LA Times, and others all used N90s. Right now I consider it one of the best bargains on the market.

needed a nikon which could spot meter with manual lenses

didnt want top line F series so my only choices were (to my knowledge) f100 and f90

Bought a £20 F90 expecting it be whatever... as my regular nikon is fm2/t... but its absolute beast. No for every day for me but its the right tool 100% for certain things.

people are totally sleeping on this camera - stupidly cheap

Similar to the Nikon F100. I now have the N75, N80 and F100 and they all get along well and share their lenses freely. The F100 is under appreciated by those who want to use the door to drive nails into boards.

Of course I was lying thru my teeth about it. This is the worst camera one can ever own!

It doesn't do a single thing worth a darn. It's simply not worth a plug nickel, or a hill of beans (don't buy)!

The F100 is under appreciated by those who want to use the door to drive nails into boards.

Especially given it's indestructible latch!

No - but if you can convince a moderator that there is a good reason to do so, the moderator can.
But I doubt they would be convincible on this thread!

Another hobby forum i belong to......if you are the OP, and you delete your first post, it deletes the entire thread.
Some guys Hate/Cry about it, i think it is a great idea on any forum, but especially on a forum that is Much Bigger than this one.

Someone once started a thread, then changed their mind and replaced the title and first post with "deleted".
People responded with things like "well said" or "I resent that".
And then it began to achieve a life all its own.
People added non sequiturs.
Random discussions snuck their way in - strangely non-responsive posts too.
Then the moderators got into the act. They started moving the thread from sub-forum to sub-forum - sort of the "Where's Waldo" of APUG.
It grew and grew and became stranger and funnier and more unwieldy and awkward - so unwieldy that Sean eventually had to close it down and remove it because it was causing problems with the site.
It was completely silly, and entirely epic, all at the same time.
