Especially with the minty fresh gum tape on the Agfa 120 rolls... Although mint and peanut butter; I'm not sure about that one.

Ours were minty.....then we were advised we had to put on the contents of the gum covering on the packaging re foodstuffs regulations....so we basically said s**f that.

I'm a printer. I print labels for welding supply products more than anything. And much of it is to satisfy NAFTA requirements--3 languages. Do you have any idea what it's like to satisfy all the little bureaucrats in 3 languages on a little tube of some product no bigger than your thumb? Imagine War and Peace printed on a little tube of glue.
Too many bureaucrats and not enough brains. And it's getting worse over here in the US exponentially by the day. I can see someday when we're all carrying clubs and killing game and living in caves because the bureaucrat types made it too hard to conduct commerce.
I have one word for you: liability (and all that ensues because of it, think lawyers, knuckleheads, code, and legal action in combination).

You are right about inclusiveness, of course.
I was more thinking of what has to be labelled in general, all of the government institutions who shape the rules, and the legal actions that can ensue if you either don't abide by existing rules, but also by the what happens when you can't foresee what some knucklehead is going to do to hurt themselves in the future.
It seemed to me that Ilford stopped using mint on their labels to avoid all of the troubles it had to go through to comply with the rules of basically declaring the content of the paper sticker glue as if it were food. That's what I spun my little argument around.
I work with government contract jobs fairly often, and it's absolutely mind bending how much bureaucracy and paper pushing well intended initiatives create.

Well, I've got eight rolls of 35mm Tri-X in my fridge that I'm never going to use, so anyone wants them just let me know, I put up a want to trade or sell thinking, and got one person contact me, but then he disappeared so I don't know what's up with that, maybe it's because Tri-X isn't selling like it used to?

Dear Tom and Thomas,
We obviously work with lots and lots and lots of legislation, we are after all a 'chemical company' and most is obviously common sense, practical, understandable..and for the safety of everyone concerned, our neighbours, customers and staff.. like everyone, when it seems like legislation for legislation sake it can be 'frustrating' this instance was 'outside' our knowledge zone so the easiest most cost effective way of dealing with the problem was....remove the problem... so we did.
As to lots of information in small places....got you Tom !!!
Its why we have the natty fold out TI sheets attached on our chemistries ( in most markets ) they are like a foot long on a 250ml bottle, but they need to be for 17 languages!.
But we are very, very lucky we have one guy here who has been looking after these 'worldwide' requirements for 40 years ( and also our ISO 9001 certification ) and they differ a great deal in different countries.
One of the 'costs' of being a very small 'multi-national' as we we export more than 90% of what we make.

Kind of bringing this full circle, tying together the original post and this last post about exporting.
Is there some reason Ilford Pan 400 is not available in the US or some other developed countries? I don't think you can buy it in UK or Canada, either, but I may be mistaken about that.
From images I have seen, it seems like it may be a good alternative to Tri-X (not that I in any way condone the elimination of Tri-X)

There I go again hogging a thread because the absurdity of my Yahoo headlines annoyed me again. After the first of the year I'm going to change my customers over to my Outlook Express address. Yahoo and AP can fall off the left side of the world for all I care. Sorry folks. Anyway, Stone, you ought to be using that Tri-X. It's great stuff. Can't imagine why you wouldn't like it. And it's just enough to use up a quart of Microdol X 1:3. Find yourself a packet of it and give it a go. Tri-X with the grain of Panatomic.

It's not 400TX it's Tri-X Pan 400, the old stuff before the re-formulation. It's expired, I've used it mostly at parties, it was given to me by a lover who once took a film class and was convinced she needed 2 or 3 pro packs worth of 35m boxes and ended up using only 4 or 5 rolls. Gave me the rest after she had her way with me, and I've had it since. It has some slight fogging and is the older grainier emulsion, so I just don't use it much except as a walk around when I don't want to waste "good film" and sometimes get neat stuff like this...
Or hanging with my friends drinking coffee when, again I don't want to use my "good film"
or with a flash for a sort of retro 80's party type imagery at parties like this...
And of course why waste the good film when it's a picture of me...
But many have reminded me that I should stick to just a few films and specialize in them, so I'm trying to do just that, so now I'm using the good film when I'm just hanging out, so I'm not using this stuff anymore. In 35mm there's only room for 3 films, PanF+, Eastman Double-X, and D3200 (after my stock of P3200 is gone, my local place doesn't have any D3200 in 35mm only in 120, but they have 10 or so rolls of P3200 in stock, so I'm slowly running through those and hoping santa brings me some D3200 in 35mm).
