Impossible Project sells Type 55 4x5 sheet and...

I had such hope for these guys, but don't feel comfortable paying $223 USD for a box of type of 55. I don't know what to make of this.

Just looks like the last of the old Type 55 stock from Polaroid. I agree the price is high but its cheaper than you'll find on ebay and probably stored a whole lot better too.

I won't be buying it but I imagine some die hard type 55 users will.

55 goes bad about 3 seconds after expiry. there's one born every minute...

Incidentally, Jim, what you say is not consistent with my experience. I have refrigerated 665 going way back several years, it's still very good. I still use 2-3 year old stuff. Likewise the 55. I've had far more issues with the polaroid holders themselves than the type 55 or 665. What does have major aging issues is the colour polaroid, pretty much any of it.

Good to know. I've still got a box or two lying around. Not refrigerated, though. That must be the difference.

Well the thing is the pods just become brittle. I am not sure if refrigeration helps or doesn't but... freezing is a definite no-no. Anyway, according got me, the big failing of polaroid film was not the films themselves but the freaking holders. Horribly unreliable. I wound up disassembling them on the spot many, many times.

My advice to the Impossible Project would be to focus on making 4x5 pack films that will run in the fuji holders. If people spend a lot of money on individual instant film sheets and then wind up losing a lot of exposures because of crappily designed, outdated holders....

Polaroid is trendy now, that's what's keeping the medium alive. That's what's keeping a large hunk of analogue photography in the mainstream. The same people who will pay $300 for a Diana will pay as much as you want for a pack of Type-55.
Polapremium/The Impossibe Project is financed largely by the fact it's the cool thing right now.

I felt it kind of weird that they keep "Finding" boxes or crates of film in "Hidden corners" etc... they've done this now like 8 times with different types of films.

Well, let's remember that large format photography is rapidly becoming one of the "sports of kings" (and a few queens as well ) and prices on certain rare materials and kit will command outrageous prices that most of us will not choose to pay. At $233.00 per 20 exposure box, Impossible is already sold out of Type 55.
