Since there is some interst in the IMAX film system I thought that some of you might like a link to this article.

seems that the 9 65mm IMAX cameras that are in existence have been getting a touch old, and so IMAX has decided to built a few new ones - Carbon Fibre and tiitanium are some of the materials. the article mentions the NAB show

https://nabshow.com/2024/

which formerly stood for the National association of broadcasters, but not covers much of content generation.

and remember the more folks use IMAX for productions, the more 65mm film Kodak sells and the more likely that the big Machine in Building 38 in Rochester will be available to churn out still film.

Wow I had no idea that there were only 9 IMAX cameras total in existence. That is awesome to hear that new ones are going to be made.

I would think that these new models will probably sound less like a lawn mower when they're running so they can actually be used in close shots without having to fully dub the dialogue in?

Not sure if all the start and stop that is needed is proably 100% of the noise. Imagine a Hasselblad shooting at 24 Exposures a second.

I heard they intended on making the new units quieter, but by how much I dont think was mentioned yet. Nolan has been using a blimp on the current model cameras for a while in some shots, but it still doesn't completely drown out the noise. I dont think the new ones will be much better for that really. Its really big film being moved there.
