I'm sad, but I know what might cheer me up...

I lost out on an auction for a Koni Omega Rapid. This made me very sad. I want one so bad!

But I think to cheer myself up, I'll try to go get some film tomorrow. Half a buck a roll for 135 and 120. I'll talk to the guy about what he might want for the 4x5 film he's got in his freezer too. I know there are people who'd want it.

Anyways, feel free to post those missed opportunities and sad stories about cameras or gear you lost or never got.
 
A few years ago, my grandpa was giving away all his cameras to the family. We each got to pick one. At that time, I'd never heard of rangefinders before. So I missed out an an M6, 35 2.0, 50 1.4 and 90 2.8 and got an FM instead.
Idiot that I was not to claim it before someone else did.
 
I as offered an 11x14 for $1000 -- but I could not talk my wife (now ex) into it.
 
I'm still sad (and very mad at myself) for throwing away (into the bin, gone forever) a Leica-nipple. I didn't know what it was (except that it was a thread adapter for a cable release), so I thought to myself - I'll NEVER need this thing. a few months later i bought a YashicaMat...damnit Ricus!!!
 
A number of years ago I met an ex Picture Post photographer who invited me to his home. He showed me a lot of his work and some of his vast collection of equipment. He loaned me a Speed Graphic with about 8 lenses including some lovely Schneider wide-angles, dark slides etc which I took away and used for a couple of months. Feeling bad about keeping the camera for so long, I returned it to him. He said I should keep the camera as he no-longer used it. I didn't feel right about this but he said to come back at any time and take it away. A few months later he died and I always regretted not taking up his offer.
 
Bushpig, Don't feel bad about the lost Koni. While yeah, they shoot nice 6x7's there were never all that many made. The ones out there have likely had heavy pro use shooting a million rolls on weddings and such. Lot's of worn out gears and few available parts.

Hasselblad on the other hand had the rep so there are thousands of them to be had from dentists who have gone over to digital.

Of course if this was a primo condition camera from a lawyer feel free to cut your throat.
 
This wasn't so bad, but a guy gave me a Rolleicord that needed a little work. I had just started a little camera repair business after taking a course in Denver. I cleaned the shutter and replaced the covering and took one roll of film with it. It needed some repair on the WLF and the latch for the back but I had no idea where to get parts. I put it up of the shelf and left it for about 5 years. Then I clicked the shutter one day and found it was slow so I decided I was not going to put any more time in it and literally tossed it in the garbage. A few years later the internet came out and places like ebay had people selling cameras for parts. I could have fixed it up or sold it for parts. That has always bugged me that I tossed that camera. Oh well!

That is why she is an ex. I had a similar thing and now life is much better.
 
When I first started working, the guys at work had arranged a photo workshop in Yosemite with Ansel Adams for a week. I had just bought a lot of 35mm equipment and I knew that the Zone System was really only for sheet film, so I passed up the opportunity. :sad:

I remember when I was looking for a house near where I work. I saw this house on 2 miles from work which will allow me to bike to work. Back then, there was the housing boom. The house I wanted was also at a university town where housing was in short supply too. To make a long story short, I didn't even tour the home because it was sold out from under me. I thought there would never be a house in my low price range so close to work. Well, I bought a house two blocks away which I still live to this day. You don't know what life will offer, but just expressing your disappointment on APUG will help make your wishes come to fruition. Good luck and be patient. Your disappointment will make you appreciate your Koni Omega Rapid that much more when you get it.
 
Keep trying. I first used a Koni while I was in the USAF. It was going to be the replacement of the Graphlex XL that we had been using for years. Last year I won a Koni-Omega Rapid for under $200, and even the seller thought I got a great deal. Great camera, and easier to carry when I don't feel like taking my rb67 out. I also have the 58mm lens, and view finder that cost more than the camera, but I'm a total wide angle slut. They're still out there, just keep looking.

Actually still in the middle of the process, so she is not officially my ex yet (she is the one who filed). She has the kids this week, so I went up to the darkroom at 10pm last night and got home at 7am. I am getting a lot more photography in lately...

My photo teacher at the university always tried to get me to take photos down to show AA -- I was too shy to attempt it. I eventually assisted at the AA Workshops at Friends of Photography, but it was after AA had died.

It gets much better. I got full custody of the two children, the ex got my dog. The dog was pissed!

I know. Thank you. I've got some LF lenses I'm gonna be selling. I have plans for some of the profits, but if I get enough (fingers crossed) I might just go nuts and actually be willing to pay what one is worth. Maybe even get an extra lens for it!

I'm sure I'll have one someday. Hopefully sooner than later though!

Jeez. I really, really, REALLY love Konica.

I passed up an opportunity to get a Crown Graphic without a lens for $200 on APUG. Then I bought a 1919 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 Rotating Back Auto Graflex which turned out to be a shelf queen and I got my money back. While I working with the RB Auto I was put in touch with someone who is a retired Graflex and Graphic repairman. He sold a pristine 1953 4x5 Pacemaker Speed Graphic and a 1927 4x5 Graflex Model D from his personal collection to me. Just hang in there, it eventually works out.

I love my Koni-Omega M. But be aware that the backs for the Rapid and for the later models are not compatible. I would recommend that you look for a nice Koni-Omega M or a Rapid Omega 200. Be patient and wait for one in nice condition.
 
A Mamiya 7, or maybe a Fuji 6x7, would cheer me up if I was in your shoes...
 
Reading Sirius Glass, Steves, note on AA reminded me. I think it was 1968, I had saved up enough money to either go out and take a one week course with AA, or... I could spend the summer surfing up and down the east coast.

By September I had a killer tan.

I hate reserve auctions.

I would've just won a Koni-Omega Rapid if there was no reserve. The body, 3 lenses, 2 finders, 2 backs. My girlfriend would've been horribly pissed, but I would've had one.

*sigh*

Oh well. Hopefully I win the next one!

Many buyers/bidders don't bid when there is a reserve because it isn't really a true auction.
