Hello, I've done this backwards, I guess. I jumped in with a couple questions and got great help, so decided to join. Now I'm introducing myself.

I live in western N.C. I shoot Nikon, Hasselblad, and occasionally Holga. I go through *lots* of film, paper, and chemicals. Sometimes I get an image I really like... not as often as I'd hope. But that now-and-then good one keeps me going.

In fact I signed up for a print-share on a list I subscribe to, and I'm wondering what I'll send. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and can find something wrong with every print I make - even the ones I like.

I like to photograph people doing things. Right now I especially like lots of busy people in an image.

I don't like printing on old paper, which I have *lots* of (from a supposed good deal. It was not!)

I'm also not fond of scanning. I burned out doing that a few times between computer crashes, so I don't have much fresh to show - only what I already have posted at "the other site". I hate to post the same stuff again here, since we all probably have frequented the same places.

Um... what else? I guess that's all that's appropriate to say about me in a public forum, aye?

I really appreciate the good response I've gotten to my couple of questions. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute something to another, here, sometime.

Janet

Welcome, Janet... it's always good to see more women here!! You'll learn a lot, and I'm looking forward to seeing your photos in the gallery when you get over that case "scan burn-out"!!

Welcome to APUG!

Croeso i APUG - welcome to APUG from Wales.
I am sure you will continue to enjoy.
Best wishes,
John.

Welcome and my sympathies about old paper. I struggled with some old Kodak Polycontrast once. It's especially dispiriting when it's "just on the turn" such that some prints can look OK and others not. In some ways it's a pity papers aren't like some batteries - either fully functional or useless.

Hey Janet. Welcome from Canada. I kinda like old paper. As Forrest Gump said, "Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get."

Another welcome from Europe/Asia I live at or rather on the crossroads.

But we can't work out N.C. We don't abbreviate Newcastle as N.C. Is it Northern Columbia, North Connecticut, Northern Canada - no that's Northern Territories.

APUG is an international forum and run from New Zealand, please remember membership is trans-continental and we can't know the local abbreviations used in each country. So be a bit more specific.

Because I like the work of James Taylor I be happier to think North Carolina, but for those of us outside the US there is no logic.

PM sent.

N.C. = North Carolina in the USA just like N.S.W. = New South Wales in the Land of Oz! :D

The world's a very large place, sure some abbreviations are obvious.

But it's easy if the poster is a little more accurate. In truth most of us are quite familiar with many abbreviations but we only really know those we come across.

So to post saying your from N.C is totally inefective, because it means nothing, we have no idea of country or locality.

So your answer is rather trite.

Welcome from western Massachusetts. Looking forward to seeing your work in the galleries... don't worry about posting "old"stuff. Some of us don't bother with the other site and haven't seen your work there.

For the most part this is a quite friendly ( ) place to visit.

Ian,

I tried with a PM.

What to say - you just seem to want to be ornery?

The new member deserves a better welcome than this.

WELCOME, JANET FROM NORTH CAROLINA, FROM ALL OF US AT APUG (AN ABBREVIATION, MIND YOU FOR ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHERS USER GROUP) WHO ALSO REALIZE THAT N.C. MEANS NORTH CAROLINA!

:D

Having just crawled out of the egg this morning, I have no idea which 'other site' you are referring to, so I'd be happy to see your work here, however 'old' it may be. (Remember that AA kept printing and selling 'Moonrise' till he couldn't stand to do so any longer. )

Re-welcome.....may your experience here be fulfilling!!

Janet,

welcome from Minnesota. I'm sure you feel the multinational spirit in this forum by now. You'll like it here, it's pretty friendly with lots of good advice and knowledge, not to mention some of the best photographers around.

Hey Janet from a fellow NC hometown gal! Nice to see you here.

Thanks for the welcome! It's nice to find a place where everyone is doing film, now.

Sorry, Ian. You're right. I'm thinking small, here. The center is in North Carolina for me, but there's a big world out there and I like the idea of sharing ideas and info with people from all around the world.

Janet

janet--saying hey from a fellow tar heel down east in the Old North State, Land of the Long Leaf Pine...
