When I sold cameras if a customer wanted to buy a camera and several lenses at once, I would advise that unless they were imminently taking a trip, that they start with one lens and learn to use that before they bought more lenses. They would thank me, buy one lens and later come back to buy one lens at a time.

I haven't seen this chap before but I like his style. Thanks for sharing that.

When I bought my EM1 MkII in May last year I got it with the 17mm F/1.8 lens. Knowing I had a lot to learn about this new camera (my last camera was an Olympus E30 from 2009) I decided just having the single prime would be a good way to simplify one aspect of the learning process. I used that setup for three months before buying the 12-40 F/2.8 Pro.

It was a challenge after having been used to having a 14-54 and 50-200 in my bag but it was a good move and I came to appreciate how much additional thought I had to put into composition. I have hopefully carried that thought process over into all my photography no matter what the lens.

Ok, I love that man. The amount of excitement and energy he exudes is completely refreshing.

Most refreshing thing I have seen in a long time. Much more satisfying than watching somebody bang on for ten minutes about corner sharpness, or if the new 67MP Whizbang XTRi body is “too big” for their hands.

I suspect that many APUG members began photography with a fixed lens camera. A folder, TWR, or something like the Argus C3. Also, before digital price collapse for film lenses, acquisition of additional lenses occurred over a long period of time.

I think Mike Johnston over at TOP takes credit for starting the one lens, one camera and one film for an entire year regimen.

I think most people who start off, have already done it. I had my K1000 for four years with just 50 on it. I wouldn't do this exercise now... But might if large format becomes too difficult to work with as I age. I can see myself coming full circle, or going back to my RB67 and 50mm as my main camera and lens.

I love Peter's videos. Thanks for posting. Have you seen his organ playing lockdown video?
I have not. I'm going to do an internet search for his organ playing.

I totally agree with the idea - I think I made one of the biggest breakthroughs in my photography (and took some of the best photos I've ever taken) when I brought just a Rolleiflex with me on a trip to Paris. It forces you to SEE, rather than think about gear. You're not thinking about which lens is best, and farting around with changing lenses, you're just looking, composing, and photographing. You're also doing a ton of mental editing before you trip the shutter, which is a really good exercise.

Pretty cool, eh. You're very welcome!
Quite refreshing compared to the other photo YouTubers. He’s seen the war and the covid lockdown is no big deal for him. He does after all, has that stiff upper lip.

Fred Picker wrote about his trip to Africa. He took a Nikon and a 105mm lens, IIRC. He said while the other people were changing lenses, he was taking pictures.

I’ve learned when going on an “expedition” to take my digisnapper for color and only one real camera.

Very entertaining video by someone who is speaking about something he loves ... and isn't just padding the time with useless dribble to pad out the length for YouTube.

Strictly speaking, shooting half a roll with a zoom lens and then 8 frames with a wide-angle lens isn't what I usually associate with "one camera one lens". In practice, however, this is how I generally shoot: one lens per each roll of film. This provides some challenge while still allowing flexibility. The downside of having a harem of cameras and lenses is being able to pay attention to them all.
