I'm all excited about my new Linhof 4x5

I recently bought a Linhof Press Standard. And so far, it's a fun camera to learn to use. The Synchro Compur shutter on the 127mm Schneider lens is a bit slow. I'm thinking of doing a CLA on it myself. I'm pretty handy guy and I'm a computer tech monkey that worked on laptops. Do you think it's advisable? Or is there a chance I can ruin the shutter?

Also, can some tell me about my new Linhof Standard Press?

It takes regular film holders. That's a plus for me.

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 5 being an easy to service shutter the Synchro Compur is a 8.5 to 9. http://benoit.suaudeau.perso.neuf.fr/manuels_rep/obturateurs/Compur-shutter-repair-manual.html shows a 127 f4.7 Xenar to be shutter diagrams CN-1210-051 for the outer case rings and aperture lever and CN-1110-000 for the main shutter. There are only assembly pictures with reference numbers, no step by step directions. The lubrication schedule is diagrams with different colors to indicate what Compur grease to use, no cross reference to anything currently available. The repair instructions only give the various settings for the shutter and special adjustments. The delay timing uses a spiral coil spring like a watch main spring. Its initial tension is easily released so pay special attention to it before removing the delay assembly from the main plate.

a lot of folks clean the slow speeds on these with a bit of lighter fluid -- it can be done if you are careful and delicate, and if all you want to do is get the slow speeds working at closer to real speeds.

A proper service, however, will make the shutter work like new for a long period of time, and that's well worth the $125 or so you will pay someone who knows what they're doing.

In the UK a CLA from a reputable workshop means the shutter is stripped down to the casing everything cleaned, dried, and re-assembled. Then adjusted for best accuracy, quite different.

Thanks for all the helpful input. Having fun playing with it. I will have the shutter CLA'd. My next question is does the Press Standard film back rotate to vertical? Or am I just stuck with horizontal? Learning that Linhof cameras are really cool cameras. I think I might have opened up a can or works using the RF camera. I'm looking at RF cams for other focal length lenses.
