With Ilfosol 3 (and other developers) is it okay to mix up small batches? For instance, if I wish to mix only a 500 ML solution will it affect the lifetime and effectiveness of the developer?
OP, are you asking about the keeping qualities of the remaining liquid stock concentrate after you have decanted a small quantity to be diluted for a "use and dump" process?
If so, I think the answer is that once you open a bottle of concentrate it will oxidise over a period. To then preserve the concentrate you could decant the stock into full but tiny bottles of say 30ml for use at 1+9 for each 35mm film( very tedious assuming you could find such small bottles) or use a squirt of a heavier than air gas such as Protectan into the remaining concentrate to form a layer of gas which lies on the concentrate.

Could you throw a link up for the glass bottles you use? (unless of course you obtained them otherwise)I use Ilfosol 3 all the time. I decant the 500ml bottle into five 100ml glass bottles. From the 100ml bottle I mix my dev 1+14. A 35mm film takes 300ml of solution in my dev tank. So that's 20ml of Ilfosol 3 each time. I don't use any gas, but exhale throught a straw into the glass bottle after I poured out the dev.
I have never had a bottle go bad.

I bought my brown glass bottles from my local pharmacy. The had to order them in and they cost €1 each.Could you throw a link up for the glass bottles you use? (unless of course you obtained them otherwise)
