Fellow (?) aficionados:

Can someone please advise the preferred development time (to produce a negative of average contrast) with Ilfosol 3 in a 1:9 dilution, for Ilford FP4/120 roll film. The film package indicates 6 1/2 minutes while the Ilfosol 3 container shows 4 minutes (both at 70').

Many thanks.

You need 6:30 when using Ilfosol S and 4:00 when using Ilfosol 3. Check it out to be sure.

That's what I thought. I used 4 minutes and got a completely unexposed roll. Could be the shutter and/or improper film loading (Pentax 645.)

Sigh. Start with Ilford's recommended times, making sure you're comparing apples to apples, and adjust to taste to account for differences in your overall "system", which encompasses everything you do from metering the scene with your specific meter, through producing the final print.

That's what we afficionados do! (dictionary.com has it spelled both ways, with either one or two f's, BTW.)

Gentlemen:

Problem solved. It was improper film loading.

Thank you all for your counsel. (You can look that one up too if you wish Mike).
