Simon,

Just found this thread. I personally think Delta 3200 in sheet film would be of great value -- at least to me. I often work in low light situations, and a film of this speed would be a great addition to current film choices. Also, wind is the large format photographer's nemesis -- and a high speed film such as this would be most valuable.

I read this thread and Just can confirm the quality of ilfomar paper. I have some of this paper and I very pleased by surface and tone. I am looking for a modern equivalent of this semi mat surface as I am ending my stock.

If you don't you will fade out and not be a major player but just a second shadow to Kodak on the World market.

We are lucky to still have Ilford after the financial problems they experienced under their former management. I'm sorry you can't get the particular products you want but to stay viable they obviously have to concentrate on what will sell in reasonable quantities or they will end up where they were before.

But for the vast majority of us, Ilford make a wide range of products and have continually sort out the views of APUG members and kept us informed so I really really can't see what you're complaining about. Of all the remaining players in the B&W market they are the least likely to "fade out" as you put it. I don't wish to knock Kodak as they make excellent products but they have already withdrawn from the black & white paper market so in that field they can't be "second shadowed" by anyone.

Ilford is ignoring the 5x7 sheet film users.

Far from it. I have no difficulty finding my favorite film - FP4+ - in 9x12cm, 4x5", 5x7", 13x18cm, 18x24cm or 8x10". The only problem is 24x30cm - all I can find is 9.5x12", which is just a few mm too large.

At present I shoot FP4+ in 5x7" and APX100 (and various Ektachromes) in 13x18cm, since that makes it easier to remember what film is in which holder. When the last of my APX100 is gone I may decide to settle on 13x18cm colour and 5x7" black & white.

But Ole it's not a democracy. I don't see the point in asking Ilford or Simon for anything. The company is going to do what it is going to do. It's an illusion that we have input on the products. Ilford is ignoring the 5x7 sheet film users. The fact that they are unable to produce slow film is bunk.

I think you are confusing "Listening to us" with "Jumping through hoops in an attempt to satisfy EVERYONE."

I personally wish they would bring IlfoCOLOR RA-4 color reversal paper back. To me, it was far superior to all the others, in terms of aesthetics, color balance, lot-to-lot and size-to-size uniformity. I loved the stuff (I have a hoard in my freezer), but I can fully understand and appreciate their decision not to re-introduce it YET.

That DOESN'T mean that they are not listening, or they are indifferent to the opinions of those of us here on APUG. We have plenty of evidence that they do listen - and consider - certainly they are more attentive by a couple of orders of magnitude over the next Photographic Supplies Company down the list.

They are making TOUGH marketing decisions, and I have absolutely NO doubt that one of the factors in their decisions is what their effect will be on those who really WANT Ilfocolor AND 5x7 Materials.

This is interesting, as RA-4 is a negative-positive process normally. I have never heard of a RA-4 reversal paper. Is this paper for direct printing of slides without an internegative step?, and process in common RA-4 color (negative) print paper chemistry??

Any idea what happened here? Can I now order some Delta 3200, SFX 200 and Delta 25 in 4x5?

Dear Ed,

ILFOCOLOR was produced in the Swiss factory along with ILFOCHROME etc, that business is now owned by the OJI Company of Japan and is known as ILFORD Imaging Switzerland GmbH : If you wish to contact them re this, I would go to the contact pages at www.ILFORD.com

Kind Regards

Hello Simon,

What is the current status of SFX in 120 size? I went looking on the net to buy some, but couldn't find any; tried Freestyle and Adorama. Is it in production at all?

Cheers and thanks, Jim

Certainly available via UK based online retailers such as discountfilmsdirect.co.uk, who sell to the UK and EU. I've got a roll of 135 from them waiting for me to get a red filter for the SLR

Silverprint list it as well, but the £100 minimum order quantity for countries outside the UK might be a bit of a killer.

Simon,
I can't emphasize enough how significant a product I believe Delta 3200 sheet film would be. Delta 3200 is about the only remaining "romantic" film, kind of the way Royal Pan was in its day. I've not been able to duplicate the feel of the film with Delta 100 or 400. Its high speed would open up new opportunities for hand held 4x5. And if made in 8x10, grain would certainly not be an issue.

I shoot a lot of Delta 3200 in 6x4.5 and I've always admired Ilford's making the film available in format larger than 35mm.

Take care,
Tom

I agree with Tom, but I stick with roll film for now. If I decide to go the route of sheet film again it will be quick loads, which unfortunately excludes Ilford. (I've heard the arguments before, so I'm not upset about it at all). But Delta 3200 in medium format is just gorgeous, especially for portraits. It does indeed feel romantic. In a portrait session not long ago I shot both D3200 and Tri-X side by side. I normally use a lot of Tri-X and think it's a great all-round film. But for the medium to low light situation I was in, the Delta just plain rocked. I got such wonderfully tight yet pronounced grain, but it's pleasantly soft at the same time. I cannot get enough of this film, and if it was available in sheets, I just might clean out my film holders...

Thanks to Simon and Ilford for all that you do anyway!

Dear Thomas,

I use DELTA 3200 all the time...for everything, I probably should not, but I just love the grain and the 'look'

Hi Jim,

I keep SFX in stock in 120, 35mm or as a promo pack with the Cokin filter and three rolls of either film.

It's been a while since I've shot Delta 3200, but since I've got my 2x3" Technika cammed and working, it may be time for a revisit. My low light combo for a while has been Tri-X 35mm and a 50/1.2. I could see that changing to Delta 3200 in 6x7 and the 105/2.8 Xenotar.

Simon or Rob... is the promo pack still available, or is it possible to pick up the Cokin SFX filter as a separate item? Our local dealer has told me that this has been discontinued. I bought the last promo pack in Windsor ON.

I love this film in both 35mm and 120 format. Much less grain than HIE, it produces a nice foliage glow at ISO 6, but what I really like is the rich mid-tones. Some recent examples here: http://tomoverton.images.googlepages.com/infraredimages

The Cokin SFX filter performed beautifully for a number of rolls until I made the mistake of shooting on an extraordinarily humid day. It now has a few minor dimples in the gel, so I have retired it for more selective application and have picked up an R-72 for everyday shooting.

Cheers,

I think it's a current item. I know I have a few promo packs left. The last time I ordered them I ordered nine promo boxes and a bunch of film. I also sell the 092 filter that B+W makes.... they are costly but people like them.
